My family of 4, my two sons, my wife and I, stayed overnight here on Jan 5, 2012
Eventhough the hotel is located in the middle of the city. To access to it is not easy. You have to go through two small lanes. Anyway, I guaranteed that you will never be disappointed when you see the hotel. This is a real hidden gem. There were several wings, designed in Burmese-Chinese style. We luckily got a suit room. ( There are only two). We had two bed rooms, one was bigger than the other. Each of them contained a toilet. The rooms were connected with a lovely sitting room. I gave two thumbs up for the interior design.Outside our room was a balcony with kitchenette. They also complemented us with a bottle of champagne. The WIFI was free, but weak signal (only pitfall we had)
The dinner and breakfast were awesome. The receptionist, bell boy, maid, gardener, waiters were well trained and rendered very good services. I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: try suite room, but you have to book in advance

This hotel is the most wonderful place. The pool, the rooms, the food, the service we found to be exceptional. You instantly relax into the surroundings and feel like you have found an old friend.
There are other, larger establishments but for me Rachamanhka is just perfect.
The location is very central and you can just walk anywhere inside the city walls with ease. I would recommend hiring a driver for the day when in Chiang Mai as the place is a mind field and you can so easily spend a day looking for a needle in a haystack. The hotel will arrange this for you at a good price.
The only downside as with most hotels is the spa treatments are so overpriced, as are things like the laundry service but you come to expect that.
Don't think about staying anywhere else in Chiang Mai.

Where to start, unfortunately during our stay the manager Paul was absent due to illness. The phrase rudderless ship is an accurate description of an awful hotel. The service is very poor, nice staff but hopelessly inefficient. So poorly trained and managed. No service at all by the pool. You can ring a number to try and get a glass of water, but you will probably die of thirst waiting. Cold unheated pool. No hot water in our room was unfortunate. So was the lack of apology. Even ordering breakfast is a challenge. Also trying to grab breakfast from the small buffet before it is cleared away is a new and uniquely Hotel Rachamankan game. I lost every time. So don't be late for breakfast in fact be early and you'll still get a chance to play.
I have stayed at some great hotels, this is SO NOT one of them ! Pricey too !

The owner showcases his antiques and even has a library replete with brandy and crystal snifters. Breakfast with fireplace outside is a nice touch for the cool mornings. Food is delicious and the portions are generous. All meals were excellent, although we only had dinner there twice. The hotel offers a private driver for the usual tours. This is a great idea and the driver was proficient in English. The suite accommodations are superb. Everyone of the staff is genuinely gracious. They made our stay wonderful. The hotel is in the old city and in walking distance of markets, Wats, spas, and many coffee shops. We rate this hotel in our top ten of our travels.

This hotel is truly a hidden gem, I kind of knew what to expect as I had read allot of reviews on trip advisor, but it still surpassed my expectations. I stayed here with my husband and our best friends for four nights at the end of a two week trip to Thailand and it was by far our best hotel. We had really treated ourselves to a bit of luxury at the beginning of the trip by staying at the six senses in Samui (which was amazing), and this was supposedly a downgrade, my friend hadn't read any of the reviews but she knew we had only paid around £90 per night for the room (via Destinology), and was utterley gobsmacked when she saw how nice the hotel was (the pictures do not do it justice). The style is kind of old meets new and it had a Tuscan feel to it (really reminded me of a rustic Tuscan farm house mixed with authentic thai style. Apart from it's stylish and tasteful decor, it has a really relaxed feel and the staff really bend over backwards to help, nothing is ever too much trouble and I would say you really feel at home. The manager was there everyday, he is really down to earth and allways made a point of asking us how we were, what are our plans for the day, do we need anything etc - on the last day he also organised for us to have our room til 5pm when we should have checked out at 12pm. The friendliness of the staff really made it. The food in the hotel restaurant is amazing, but not once did they try and push us to eat in the hotel restaurant when we were asking for recommendations of where to eat. We will be returning to the rachamanhka next year, as four days in chiang Mai just wasn't enough!! Another must do is a restaurant called Le Fourchette a short tuk tuk or 5-10 min walk from hotel. Amazing French bistro, food is delicious and the owners / staff are so proud of their restaurant that it's difficult to leave without a smile on your face. We had a 3 course dinner with wine that was 5 star quality for about £15 per head!! Yet I probably would have walked straight past the restaurant if we didn't have the heads up from trip advisor.

Such a lovely property! Restaurant with great ambiance and tasty food.
HUGE challenges with overall service. Staff are most willing to help but lack of language skills make Concierge service unhelpful.
Also, we rented a private car to be brought to Chiang Rai. After leaving the hotel with a uniformed driver, we then stopped 15 minutes into the journey to pick up someone the driver said was his wife to take the drive without any previous knowledge or request if this was acceptable! INCREDIBLE! By the time we reached the White temple in Chiang Rai the driver was down to his T shirt. Forgettable service and inconsistent with the usual level of service at a Relais and Chateaux property. (Stay at the Chedi.)
