We booked this hotel because it was recommended in our guidebook as a decent middle class hotel (that reminds me I need to email them about that! Have they seen this place?!). Upon our arrival, we were absolutely impressed by the giant entrance hall that makes it look like you are about to encounter absolute luxury. Oh how wrong that impression was.

Walking towards our room, you go past an absurd thing that is called "The Cozy Place" according to the writing on the wall - it consisted of a few hard wooden chairs lined up along the wall. From there, you look down into the large restaurant area that looked like David Lynch would love it for one of his movies. But there was nothing cozy about it.

Continuing on to the rooms - o the horror. The hallways have nothing of the luxurious entrance, and it only gets worse when you enter your room because at least ours smelled as if someone had used the carpet as a toilet. (It was too late to check out and find a new place for the night so we tried to tell ourselves that it was an odd chemical in the carpet - not necessarily comfortable to think but less disgusting). The bed felt like lying on a large wooden board that was held up by springs, so if one person moved, the entire surface of the mattress moved with it.
Generally, the hotel left me with the impression of a post-communist nightmare, even if this wasn't the correct region for this kind of atmosphere. We left the next morning after a quick breakfast (not good. All of the food looked somehow suspicious, which may have had to do with my general dislike of the place, but even in different surroundings it would not have been a good meal) and directly went hunting for a better place to stay (we found a lovely guesthouse for a fraction of the price) and fled, not even bothering to try and get our money for the second night back.

Had to leave a hostel as it was full and ended up having to stay here for one night. Worst room ever, smelled terrible. Staff told me there was A/C in the rooms, which was a lie.

Rooms are old, bathrooms are gross and the pool is the size of a large bath.

There are better options for a much better price!!!!

Okay,

So we got this hotel as part of a trek-tour package. On the brochure, it looked like a Hilton..once we got there the entrance was grand! i actually took my camera out to take pics of the entrance..

So we check in..and as we head deeper into the hotel, it starts to get worst..the colours become gloomy and depressing..and it begins to stink!!! we don't know what it was!! it just stank, the corridors felt damp and humid...TERRIBLE..

Its like they spent all the renovation money on the entrance, and the entrance only!!

When we got to the rooms, we actually smoked inside the room just to remove the stink from the room!!

dont go there..dont!!

Peace,
Zingo and Ringo

I had a sinking feeling while checking in, when it seemed that I had somehow angered the receptionist by merely walking through the door, dragging her away from the animated conversation she was having with a coworker. "Passport," she more or less snarled at me. She indicated a form I should fill in, spent some time tapping at the computer, then summoned someone to show us to our rom, and that was the extent of our interaction. No smile, no "enjoy your stay". Maybe she knew it was unlikely that we would.

We were shown to our room, which was an average low- to mid-budget hotel room. A bed, a table, a small balcony, a bathroom. Meh, whatever. (Disclaimer: I have a fondness for flash hotels, but if I can't afford five-star, I'll take a cosy little B&B or guesthouse over a mid-budget hotel any day. So I was unlikely to be impressed by the room from the get-go. We only wound up at the BP because we wanted to extend our stay in Chiang Mai and the guesthouse we had been staying in was fully booked). We were told we were in the recently opened new wing of the hotel, so we were in one of the better rooms. It all looked OK enough, until closer inspection. Like... we could hear the TV from the next room, even though it was obviously playing pretty softly, so we felt we had to moderate our voices so our neighbours couldn't hear us. And there was a lack of ventilation in the bathroom, which meant that although we were in a new room, it felt damp and there was a hint of mould in the air. And there was around quarter of a roll of toilet paper left in the toilet-roll holder and no spares to be found. And there was nowhere to hang up your towels after taking a shower - they just had to be draped damply over the shower door. It's hot in Chiang Mai. You want more than one shower a day and you don't want to have to call down to reception for a fresh towel each time. And, most grievously, THERE WAS NO HOT WATER! I know I just said that it's hot in Chiang Mai, but I'm not given to taking cold showers even when it's 35 degrees outside. I mean, most of your cheap Chiang Mai guesthouses can manage to provide hot water!

After an alright sleep in a fairly hard bed, we went out for the whole next day. When we came back to the room at 4.30, the place had not been serviced. Our towels were still hanging damply, our bed was unmade and there was no freakin' toilet paper left at all. I don't think toilet paper is too much to ask from a hotel, right?! My partner had to go to reception to ask for the room to be made up and was greeted with such indifference, as having our room made up was an added extra that we shouldn't just expect them to provide. Reception did send two men up who did a real quick job on the place - they were in our room for less than five minutes. And still no spare roll of toilet paper. Who knew it was such a precious commodity?

We only stayed for two nights, so I have no idea if the place improved after that, but I wouldn't have held my breath.

I'm giving it 2/5, because the only place I've ever given 1/5 literally had urine on the walls. And if I can say one good thing about BP Hotel, it's that it didn't have urine on the walls.

Room tip: Book a different hotel!

The hotel is secure, well kept and close to a sunday street night market. The room was clean, very spacious (for 1500bht p.n) and the large soft bed and chairs were comfortable. The a/c worked well. The bathroom was large but the shower water was either too hot or too cold. Breakfast was fine. Reception staff are friendly and well turned out. I didnt try the small swimming pool. Seemed to be plenty of parking available for those with a car. We enjoyed our stay and we would return.

Room tip: If you dont like the room you are first offered always ask to change.

Stayed here for one night in November. It was cheap but there was a smell of damp in the corridors, damp on the ceiling, the rooms smelt and the shower caused a mini flood in the bathroom. The best thing about it was the breakfast!
