“Excellent location, spacious room, good service”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

We really enjoyed our 4-night stay at Suriwongse Hotel in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It was recommended to us by Thanrin, the very competent and gracious travel officer of Happy Travel at the lobby of Bossotel Chiang Mai which we haven’t been to yet. In booking our air tickets and tours for Chiang Mai, Thanrin booked us in this hotel for which we are very grateful for to her. Excellently located in the city center at the side of the famous Night Bazaar and near the massage shops and numerous restaurants, Suriwongse Hotel was undergoing renovation at the time we checked in but we felt very much at home and comfortable. One of the first newly- renovated rooms, our spacious room had a huge bathroom with a separate shower and bathtub. Its even better than most five star hotel rooms we had been to. The room fee comes with a yummy buffet breakfast with lots of Asian and Continental choises. The free shuttle service that goes around the various hotels to take passengers to Central Plaza Airport Mall, the only mall in Chiang Mai, (2 new malls are currently being constructed) the Airport and vice-versa, passes by Suriwongse Hotel. One can take this free shuttle service from the Chiang Mai International Airport to the hotel at no cost. Inquire at airport information the location of the pick-up place. No need to take a taxi. The hotel staff are friendly, competent and efficient. There is also a mall opposite the hotel where one can find good products and souvenirs, aside from the huge Night Bazaar where one can buy almost anything one desires. I noticed an advertisement that for every 3 night stay, one can have a room upgrade on one's next stay at any Suriwongse Hotel.I recommend this hotel to my family and friends.

Room Tip: Room 735 is good. Near elevator but quiet.

the hotel was located next to the night market, where you can get cheap deals on souvenirs and local food. The hotel staff was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the hotel was undergoing some renovations, so the gym and pool areas were closed. There was also a lot of construction noise during the day. They did offer a shuttle to a nearby gym. The airport pick up was on time and we were provided cool towels and cold bottled water in the shuttle. Breakfast was included in the price and the buffet had a large selection of Western and Thai options. It was very good.
I would stay here again once the renovations are completed.

This hotel is in a good location in the Night Bazaar area of Chiang Mai. I have stayed in most of the big hotels in this area.

The décor is tasteful.

Staff were friendly and helpful.

I noticed when I arrived that they have a free shuttle service to the airport. It would have been useful to have been advised of that before I got a taxi there!

There is wifi at a cost.

Breakfast wax quite good with an egg station and all the standard fare.

I imagine some of the rooms have good views. Mine was overlooking the next block of the hotel over a narrow alleyway.

The bed was not overly comfortable.

Overall this is an above average but not outstanding hotel.

The hotel is nearing the end of a large modification upgrade & I look forward to the completion when all services will be available, however it still remains one of my favorite hotels in C.Mai. Unfortunately the seasonal price is out of my budget and while I visit C.Mai about every 6 to 8 weeks I can only afford to stay in off season.

The location is excellent for shopping & other tourist essentials. The staff have always been friendly and professional. The rooms are spacious with excellent seating, clean & tidy, some are still in the process of being upgraded, however still acceptable. The TV has a good choice of international channels and all rooms have a kettle with tea & coffee, for me essential. The bed is comfortable and linen has always been clean. The bathroom has separate shower and bath with a window by the bath allowing you to soak, relax and watch TV should you desire.

The mini bar is well stocked however like all hotels is expansive, consequence I never use them and buy from outside. If they reduced their price to just a couple of Baht more expansive than outside I would use it.

This time internet access was available in my room while slow much appreciated, it mean I could work in the comfort of my room.

The breakfast is okay and I assume a larger choice will be available once the modifications are complete. The staff in the breakfast room are attentive, friendly and helpful.

I look forward to having access to the car park via the lift upon completion of the upgrade.

An excellent choice of hotel for all.

F Smith

The Suriwongse is in an excellent location, across the road from the night market and within walking distance to lots of excellent eating.

We stayed here for 4 nights and had 2 rooms, the first night one of our rooms had the smallest bathroom (including a 450mm wide shower) and when I complained to Sean the manager he immediately upgraded our party to a deluxe room, the room was fantastic, large (as all the rooms are in this hotel) with a big bathroom, including bath and seperate shower, all done in Japanese style. Our room had a king bed plus a large couch plus 2 sitting chairs, everything worked well and the room was very clean and well maintained.

Breakfast was varied, and we had no problem getting breakfast after we slept in 1 day at 10.am. The choice is varied with around 10 hot dishes, eggs cooked to order, fruits, cereals, croissants, fresh bread, sweets - a very good variety.

The hotel is undergoing refurbishment, so when we wanted to swim the hotel arranged for us to be shuttled to the eco lodge to use their pool free of charge. The pool there is 25 meters in length, so we had a lovely afternoon lazing around and then the hotel shuttle picked us up. There is also the free shuttle to the shopping mall.

All the staff are excellent, always smiling and I must comment that the manager Sean went out of his way to make up for the small hiccup we had in the beginning, he is definately an asset to this establishment and if byou want a comfortable stay at a great price, then this is the place to stay. Definately upgrade to the bigger deluxe room and relax in their big baths.

Room Tip: C wing is better

We just spent a week in Chiang Mai and Suriwongse was a great choice for our stay. The orchid deluxe room was spacious, clean, well stocked, and beautiful. The staff were professional and friendly and the tour center available in the lobby provided us with some amazing memories. The price was very reasonable and the location was great with easy access to the night bazaar and a plethora of great food options. Their pool facilities were under renovation when we visited but they offered a voucher to use the fitness center and pool across the street at the Centura which was excellent. Would recommend to anyone. Thanks to Chon who took good care of us!
