We stayed at Tamarind for four nights and enjoyed ourselves. The property is beautiful and set away a little from the main road. Once you walk onto it, you are immediately more relaxed and calm. We didn't use the pool but looked nice. The average room is a little small but nice overall. The breakfast is nice but not over the top. We ate at the restaurant one night and the food was very good and setting very nice. I would highly recommend.

Really enjoyed our stay. The overall feel of the hotel is very good. The rooms are a little dark and airless. You have to sit around the pool as rooms don't have proper balcony or outside sitting area. The spa is excellent and I had 2 lovely massages. The General Manager is fabulous. She was always visible and very warm and friendly. The food was excellent. The water did leak from the bathroom to the bedroom but no real problem. The Tamarind tree is beautiful. The ground lovely.

Room Tip: We had a small balcony off bedroom which was ok but our friends did not and found the room stuffy.

What a gem, right in the old town and next to the road that has the amazing Sunday night market.
15 minutes from the airport.
Superb old traditional style apartments, superb staff, amazing pool, great food, great location what more do you need?

we stayed for 5 nights as part of our thai honeymoon and after the crazyness of bangkok it was nice to come to chiang mai and totally relax...

The hotel was very quiet and peaceful, almost like being in a buddhist temple. The rooms were spacious and clean and had all the usual amenities that you need such a safe, tea and coffee facilities, air con and laundry if required ( though a little pricey compared to the place down the road)

Resturaunts near by, many bars and coffee places.

the hotel seemed very secure and all staff so helpful... definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Chiang Mai...

We loved Tamarind Village and spent New Years Eve here. It truly is an oasis in the heart of busy Chiang Mai. This is the place to come if you are looking for quiet and relaxation and a chilled out atmosphere. The staff were awesome - polite, pleasant and helpful - and even joined in the dancing as we celebrated New Years Eve. The food was top notch and unexpectedly good and each dish came with a Thai twist (try the Thai-style tamarind ribs, homemade pineapple and coconut jam and coconut ice cream). The complimentary room products were above-average hotel quality and indicative of how I will remember Thailand with the scent of jasmine, ginger and lemongrass. I appreciated how they paid attention to small details from the room decorations (northern Thai style decor), the food presentation, the florals to the art, the ceramics, and the courtyard layout that is built around a 200-year old tamarind tree. Location is great - close to restaurants, shopping, temples, airport and the night market.

My husband and I are 26 and we stayed at Tamarind Village for four nights in May 2013. We were deciding between this hotel and U Chiang Mai (which is about one block west). We could not have been happier with our choice. Tamarind Village is an incredibly charming hotel in the heart of old Chiang Mai.

The grounds of the hotel, including the beautiful landscaping (and gigantic tamarind tree at the center) are lovely. I studied architecture in college and absolutely loved the design of the hotel. One feels completely insulated from the city just outside the walls. The pool area is clean and quiet, and we had delicious breakfasts sitting at the pool each morning. Also, at least one of the nights we were there, the hotel restaurant had live music which was great.

Although the room is somewhat small, it features all sorts of interesting and unique touches. We particularly loved the handwoven rugs and pillows in our room and the tiles in the bathroom. The hotel may not tell you this, but room service gave us four new bottles of water each day.

What really makes the hotel standout is the service. There were always multiple people sitting at the desk eager to help or answer any questions. On our first day, they gave us a historic map of the city with directions to a number of the important temples nearby (of which there are many). The hotel staff helped us plan a trek, a cooking class, a trip up to Doi Suthep temple, and multiple cabs. Each member of the staff always greeted us with a smile. The hotel also has free activities going on almost every day of the week - we did paper umbrella painting and flower garland weaving. I also got an authentic thai massage at the hotel spa which I loved – you can definitely get cheaper massages at other places in Chiang Mai but my experience at the hotel spa was great and I would recommend getting at least one treatment there.

beautiful grounds, beautiful room, walking distance from the night market (big tourist attraction) and great massages. massages at the hotel are much more expensive than those in town. my wife massaged her way through this vacation and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. breakfast was very good, lots of choices.

A perfect oasis! Our spacious well-appointed room, even with an outdoor shower and huge bath tub, was just what we hoped for! We were in the Lanna Deluxe room with large patio to enjoy morning coffee and the evening stars. The grounds are lovely with boutique hotel charm and very nice staff. Easy to walk to places and sight see the beautiful city temples, local shopping, and get a $5 1 hour massage. A quick ride to the river area and other shopping districts. It is in the quieter area, not where all the late night bars are happening but definitely easy to get to. Only be sure if you are hungry, eat in other areas if late at night, nothing opened in this area and hotel has no room service after 1030pm.
