We stayed here the end of November while the festival in Chaing Mai was on, the hotel is situated in the old part of town and it really is a little oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle. When you enter the hotel everything seems so calm and serene. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are a little bit dark but nevertheless very nice and well equiped with a lovely shower and bathroom. The breakfasts were excellent with everything you can imagine. I would definitely recommend this hotel and if I returned to Chiang Mai not hesitate to stay here again, in my opinion probably the best small hotel in the area.

We booked the Tamarind Village Hotel thru a Travel Agent. We were supposedly given a "Lanna Deluxe" room, yet the pictures on the hotel's website are better than the room we were given... Management assured us we had the room level we'd booked. We asked for a new room and were shown a room that was much smaller then the first room. So, we stayed with our original room assignment and thereafter referred to it as "the cave." It was dark and unattractive, and not very inviting. The website mentioned the "small balcony or terrace for sitting out and enjoying the courtyard" was more like a wide-spot in the interior sidewalk and the "views onto the garden greenery." Our room's view was of a (brick, if I remember correctly...) wall.
...
All of this is a shame since the rest of the hotel is a beautiful property. The pool area is large with plenty of lounge chairs. A wonderful place to rest after a day of wandering about. The property is clean and well-maintained. The staff is super-friendly. The breakfast was VERY good; a buffet with a selection of offerings to suit Asian, European, and American palates. Lunch at the restaurant is very good and reasonable-priced.

Room Tip: We had room 6104 and were very dissatified.

We went there for dinner and the food was awesome! The entire surrounding and atmosphere is really nice too, price wise is pretty reasonable. One may want to bring along an insect repellent though. The place is located at the heart of the Old City.

My wife and I stayed here for 4 days in the middle of November after a couple of frantic days in Bangkok and it was precisely what the doctor ordered. From the eye catching (and oft photographed) tree lined entrance to the carefully designed rooms, we enjoyed the relaxed vibe that emanated from this place.

The rooms are pleasant though not particularly big but the shower is - we could have fitted eight people in ours if we'd been the types.! His and hers basins, spacious loo and good quality soaps and gels according to my wife - no issues there.

The pool is fairly small but there was never more than 5 people in it during our time there, it must be said that this is probably not an ideal place for families with children older than toddlers as the hotel tacitly engenders a certain calm which may not suit. In fact there was probably 80% couples only plus a few with babies in the time we were there.

The breakfasts are served by the pool (if you're early enough) and are sublime, the quality easily surpassed anything else we had while in Thailand and included a wonderful homemade marmalade. I must also add the the meals in the evening are of high quality though naturally more expensive then the fare available elsewhere.

We both had a massage while there, mine was the best I've ever had (I think her name was Ang) - they also offer free hand massages by the pool most evenings which was a nice touch. Indeed all the staff try their utmost to make your stay as pleasant and relaxing as possible.

Downsides.? Well we had to up and leave after 4 days, we could have happily stayed another couple or more and will definitely stay here again should we ever return to Chiand Mai.

This is a charming boutique hotel right in the centre of old Chiang Mai and is an oasis of peace and calm. The setting was filled with artwork, local crafts, greenery and flowers. There are plenty of pubs and resturants nearby to walk to. Our room was cozy, clean and very comfortable.
The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and polite. We especially enjoyed the variety and quality of the breakfast buffet.
It is worthwile to be there on a Sunday as the Sunday Evening Walking Market is right outside the hotel grounds. We highly recommend this charming hotel!

I am so glad I got to experience Tamarind Village. The rooms were relaxing and peaceful with small touches making it special. The staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Every thing was close by but the hotel was set back from the road in a very peaceful, beautiful setting.I look forward to another trip to Chiang Mai where I will stay at Tamarind again. Thank you to the Tamarind team for a wonderful stay.

As others have said the rooms are a little dark but this traditional style has far more character than the larger chains. Location is great too to wander round the city & not far from the night market. Great selection for breakfast & staff were always helpful & friendly-no complaints from us!
