This is probably one the best places to stay in Chiang Mai if you're looking for atmosphere and party but be prepared of that you might have to pay with a little bit of your sleep, safety and privacy. The place hosts quite a few people but is kind of small so there is not much space. Walls and floors are like paper so you hear everything from everywhere. Owners is very friendly though and helped us to find both places, tours and companies which we were very satisfied with.

This hostel is a brilliant place to stay if you're looking for a chill, social atmosphere. It's full of young backpackers from all over the world and the people who run it are super friendly and will commit to not only learning your name but linking you up with different activities on a daily basis. There's always something going on at The Living Place, whether it's going out for meals, hikes, movies, burlesque shows, day trips, or an impromptu jam sesh. You'll be surrounded by art and good vibes.

If I'm ever in Chiang Mai again, I'll be staying here.

Room Tip: If you have heavy / unwieldy luggage, try to specify this and get a room on a lower floor. There are 5 floors and all the stairs are quite steep and more difficult to navigate with large objects. Also be aware that the dorms are co-ed.

This is a wonderful hostel. Both Aree and V are genuinely two of the nicest people I have so far come across in Thailand. Not only are they incredibly helpful and friendly, they also ensure that their guests are welcomed with open arms into the hostel - they also take the time to introduce new backpackers to the current group that are staying.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience; if I ever come back to Chiang Mai, this will most certainly be the place I will stay again!

We stayed in this hostel for 2 nights. We stayed in a 6 bed dorm which is very basic. You get what you pay for. We didn't spend much time there but it was everything that we needed. The rooms were clean enough, and the air con worked well. It was quite a quiet place so we got good nights sleep. The bathroom was alright, first thing in the morning it was nice but by the end of the day it was a bit dirty and felt a bit unclean.
You could also rent a tent which we found quite random because they were situated on the landing so I can't imagine you would get much sleep because of people constantly walking past.
They had a good communal area downstairs where most people sat and chatted most evenings.
It's about a 5 minute walk up the road to the main river which runs throughout Chiang Mai which leads off to all the main routes to see the night market and bars and restaurants.

Good place to stay if you want a good nights sleep and looking for value for money

The owners of the hostel were amazing, they were really helpful in letting us know all the main attractions to go and see, and told us exactly where we needed to go! Really nice genuine people.

Room Tip: Maybe don't choose the tent option if you want to sleep at all during your time there!

We didn't spend much time in the hostel but the beds were comfy and the staff was very nice. The facilities were clean although there were some ants in the bathroom, but I think this is common for Thailand.
It's not too far from the night market if you plan on going.
