Great family room, value for money

Review of Noble House
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 8, 2018
We wanted a family room for 2+3 and got the family room which is basically 2 joining rooms, was ideal. Meant we had space for the kids and their own bathroom. Around $25 per night which seem great value. Beds weren't great but not the worst we've had in Thailand.

Hotel is in good location, just next to Chiang Mai gate, great nightly food market within 50m walk. Easy car parking for rental car on the street.

Overall, good value for money, friendly staff, good, clean budget hotel.

Pros
Near Chiang Mai gate and the Saturday Street market.
Clean.
Room away from the street have balconies overlooking a car park.
Helpful staff.

Cons
Noisy due to tiled corridor and big gaps under door.
Thin walls (you can hear next doors TV.)
Hard beds and pillows.
Lift is between floors. (You either have to walk up or down a set of stairs to get to your room.)
Very tired and scruffy decor.

We've spent 3 nights here with a larger group.
The rooms were a bit worn but very comfortable and nothing disgusting. The bedsheets were always fresh and clean.
The night staff doesn't speak English, don't even bother it. The Saturday Night Market is just a few steps away, just as numerous 7/11, foodstalls and massage shops.
The wi-fi is OK, if it lost the signal just restart the router placed on the corridor.

Room tip: Try to opt for the suites. Worth the extra money and still cheap.

Whilst the staff were friendly and the location was good, the bed and pillow were extremely rock hard. Sleeping on the floor with a towel under my head would have been softer. Close to markets but I wouldn't stay again.

This is a long-established hotel in the area to the south of Chiang Mai Gate, a minute’s walk from the well-known Wua Lai Saturday walking street. It stands on a noisy main road and the ground floor of the building is occupied by a large motorcycle hire and sales operation. Reception is on the first floor and the lift to the accommodation floors stops at half-landings, so there is still a set of stairs to negotiate if you are carrying heavy luggage. The broad, marble (type)-floored corridors do tend to amplify the ambient noise from the street outside and the tendency by thoughtless guests to slam doors and hold loud conversations in the wee hours - they have many Chinese tour groups who have not learned the courtesies of respect for other patrons.

I was fortunate enough to get a room on the top floor to the rear, which kept the noise level down a bit. The room itself was large and clean, with a door opening on to a generous balcony, but it was no more than functional. There was a refrigerator and a TV, block-wood furnishings, which were originally painted white or cream but were marked and stained, and the room had adequate storage for clothes and kit. The mattress on the bed was firm and a little unforgiving. The wet-room type bathroom offered a decent electric shower. The wifi connection was generally, but not consistently, reliable.

The reception staff were friendly, bi-lingual and helpful, while the domestic staff did a good job on the rooms. Given the central location, with its easy access to the old city, the local transport options and the food stalls in the local market, I’d rate Noble House as a good place to stay and good value for money.

Room tip: Try for the upper floors to the rear of the building

Nice, clean rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location and very reasonably priced. Close to lots of shops and restaurants. Tuk tuks flying by frequently so easy to get anywhere from there. Air conditioned and fairly consistent WiFi connection. The only downside to this place was that due to the lack of ventilation in the bathroom it started to smell very damp very quickly which was really unpleasant. Each day after the housekeeping visit the smell had gone so they are obviously keeping on top of it and due to the design of the building I guess this is all they can do. Great place to stay though, and would recommend.
