The staff are very friendly and speak English very well. We felt safe and welcomed during our stay. It's location is slightly removed from the main road but it takes 3mins to find everything you need. I recommend booking a cooking class through the hostel - the Asia Scenic Cooking school - if you do a day long course you are taken to their organic farm where you spend the day learning about the ingredients in between 6 courses that you cook yourself.
Buddy Guest House is perfect for friends and/or couples who want a laid back, quiet hostel that's still close to everything

In terms of location it's a good place to be, not too far to walk to any of the markets, bars & the old city.
Much to be desired inside the guesthouse though. Stayed for 4 nights, changed from a fan room (490 per night) to an aircon room (590 per night) after 2 nights. Fan room turned out to be much cleaner and nicer, but the squeak of the rotating fan (which can't be adjusted to stay still) was pretty annoying! Minor thing I know, but made sleeping difficult and was too hot to go without!
Room with aircon wasn't good. Dead cockroach on the bathroom floor (which looked like it had been there a while), mould all over bathroom, smelly drain & a flooded floor within seconds of turning on the shower. Bathroom door didn't shut without almost shifting it off its hinges.
Breakfast was basic, but ok, if you like eggs. Bit put out by service though, asked for 1 extra slice of toast one morning thinking it would be provided within our 'included' breakfast as the staff were very friendly & accommodating, we were naive. Got charged for it later that day when paying for the room.
Small things can make so much of a difference in places like this, it's just a shame some of these things are overlooked. The potential is definitely there!

Room Tip: Not 202! Would recommend aircon if all fans are as squeaky as ours!

We stayed at buddy guest house for 3 nights, and paid 470 baht a night including breakfast.
Our room was small, but clean. The guesthouse is situated in a lovely street, close to the night market and the old city, but very quiet.
The staff was very kind and helpful, they catered to our special needs and helped us a lot. One of the owners took the time to give us helpful tips about Chiang Mai, and the receptionist booked a zipline experience for us without any commission.
Breakfast is basic but satisfactory (you can choose from two sets).
We would recommend it to our friends.

Complained to owner that a few things were not in order. Blocked drain, dirty toilet and tiles etc., She in turn called me a "[--]". Not good for a paying guest. Left in disgust. Although it is in a central area near the market, there are lots of hotels/guesthouses in this area for the same price. The reception staff were very nice and helpful and spoke very good English. Went out of your way to help you. Even though I spent time cleaning bathroom which is very very small the staff were helpful enough to come up and clean again to my satisfaction. I do think they just need some help how to clean properly. Rooms very small indeed. A/c worked which was very good on a hot day. Breakfast could be better and more of an choice apart from eggs and toast. Nice to sit downstairs and watch people go by. Not much noise at night which is good. But would never stay here again.

We arrived late at night (11pm), check in wasnt an issue and were shown to our room, but the a/c wasn't working. The guy in reception came to fix it straight away, which we were greatful for! It is right near an Italian so could order lovely take pizzas away after a long train journey from Bangkok.

The room was ok, but had nowhere to hang things or put anything on except a small clothes drier. The bathroom flooded after each shower and when the room was clean the bin was left overflowing, but our plastic drink bottles had been taken. We were given dirty towels several times (one had oil stains) and a pillow case that definitely needed a wash. There is a toilet in the breakfast area, but never any soap in the dispensers during our 6 night stop.

Breakfast was fine and they even made it a bit earlier than advertised as I had booked a long day trip on one of the days.

Location is great for night market and several temples. Staff gave us information on trips when we asked.

Probably wouldn't stay here again though.

Normally wouldnt write a bad review but making an exception for this place, yes it was cheap so we didnt expect amazing but had to move rooms 3 times hardest bed in the world, toilet was broke, shower flooded so much it looked like a paddling pool, we complained and to this he replyed it was 'our' fault because our hair had blocked it, this wasnt true has we hadnt even washed our hair. The fan room was the sweatiest room ive ever been in in my life, no toilet roll in any of the rooms. The 3rd one had a little bit.. Thank god for babywipes! The staff wernt very helpful, we sat down for breakfast and got told there wasnt much left.. This was at 7.30am. We went elsewhere for breakfast obviously! Tried to book night safari and got given 3 different prices.. Only thing that was good was the location.

I couldn't have asked for anything else! The room was perfect, comfortable and cleaned to a high standard daily. The staff we re attentive and really friendly, they helped us book a number of tourist attractions and made sure that we had everything we needed (also lots of directions to things around Chiang Mai), very good english as well! Good location pretty central in town and close to the night market ..

Would definitely come back!
