While staying in Chiang Mai, we decided to head out to Mandarin to check it out for future reference. We found the grounds very beautiful and the pool fabulous...but not as "Thai" as the Four Seasons in Chiang Mai/Mai Rim. We headed to the bar for a drink and expected the high prices. However, what we didn't expect was an empty bar, a very short pour (really, for $18- for their special margarita, it should be pour to the brim but came up a full inch short), and then the flying termites came out. It was so bad they had to turn out most of the lights and at that point, we decided to leave. The manager apologized for the bugs...but didn't offer us any compensation.
When trying to get back to Chiang Mai, about a 15 min. drive, it took over 20 min. for a taxi to arrive and several folks were shuffled into taxis ahead of us...awkward. Given the choice, we would choose the Four Seasons over this place - much more beautiful and the service there was perfect.
