Ruang Tawan Hideaway
Reviewed November 28, 2013

Ruang Tawan Hideaway is a wonderful oasis in which to recover from a 30 hr journey from Canada. The place is simply gorgeous, both in natural setting and with its antique furnishings. We had the wonderfully spacious Yellow House--top choice. Ja and Paul are perfect hosts, so nice and considerate. Be sure to eat in the cafe and have dinner at the resort. We had perhaps the best meal we enjoyed in Thailand, and the usual chef had taken off to join the protests in Bangkok! It is a rather costly and long journey into town, therefore difficult to return for an afternoon siesta. We in fact stayed only 2 rather than the 4 nights we had booked, moving to a hotel in town. But that makes for the perfect combination, recovery before tackling the big city.

Room Tip: Yellow House!

This place is like a slice of heaven! Without a doubt the best place I've ever stayed at. I would give The Hideaway 6 stars! Away from the city but not too far, especially if you plan on doing some things north of Chiang mai. The grounds are beautifully manicured, the common lodge is out of this world beautiful and comfortable, so easy to loose an afternoon lounging around. They have a little bar in there fully stocked. Jaa and Paul could not have been more friendly and helpful. They helped us plan the rest of our trip, gave us recommendations around the local town and we had numerous good conversations. We asked about massages and they had a lady come to us who was fair I price and had amazing touch!! Breakfast was very good with fresh fruit, strong coffee and the most delightful croissants! We had dinner at the Hideaway one night, they made a few different local dishes so we could sample a little of each. Also, there is a good restaurant across the street if you don't feel like going all the way into town. Jaa also has a secret cafe on the grounds for lunch if you feel like sticking around. I could not recommend this place highly enough and we will be back for sure!

We stayed in the pink cottage and absolutely loved the property. This was such a great choice as it is near the city but far enough away that you get some peace and quiet. There is a café on the property that offers some delicious lunch choices, snacks and has a coffee bar. Paul and Ja could not have been more helpful in answering our million questions, setting up songthaews to get us into town and helping us schedule our activities. We could not be more pleased with the service, food and accommodations and I highly, highly recommend this to anyone who wants somewhere to get away and relax. We already miss all the dogs, frogs and chickens!

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Blueroom for one week. This is my third visit, every time I go there, I don't want to leave. Every part of hotel is beautifully decorated. The garden is cared for and yet feels natural. Some days when we didn't feel like going out, we just head to the cafe where ja Ja serves up some amazing cakes and light lunch dishes. This is definitely my favourite place to stay every time I go to Chiang Mai. Ja and Paul also helps us arrange our activities such as Thai cooking class, market visit and told us the best little restaurants in the city. Not to be missed if you are looking for a unique, genuine travel experience in Chiang Mai

We spent 1 week at Ruang Tawan Hideaway. Ja & Paul are young and friendly great hotel keepers/managers/owners. They really tried to help us to organise our day-trip in the region, also advising us about local plan.
The Hideaway is 20min from the town center. Taxis do not know the place very well, but Ja & Paul give you a map to show to drivers. This is really NOT a pb. It is really great, after 10hours spent in Chiang Mai, to come back "home" and have a peaceful, calm, noiseless recover !!!
Food is also really great and you can have tea-time cakes/drinks at the tea-saloon 50m from the hotel (also owned by Ja & Paul).
Really a place where we would love to go again!!!

Room Tip: We got the blue house, which is finally a great 100m2 bungalow! Bathroom has open-sky roof. Accomdat...

So you've thought about or are planning a wedding or other event in Thailand, and have yet to find the best venue. If you’re looking for slick, well-groomed venues with a Western, “five-star” environment, then look elsewhere. But if you’re looking for a genuinely northern-Thai experience and setting that has soul and panache, with a knowledgeable and caring and attentive staff that is willing to work with you to create exactly the event you envision, then Ruang Tawan Hideaway is well worth considering. Set in the outskirts of Chiang Mai in a rustic yet naturally gorgeous plot, RTWH is truly amazing. The owners, Paul and Ja, have spent a number of years building an eclectic resort that blends serenely into the surrounds yet stands out as a beacon of beauty and style. The main open-air lodge and the five lodging cabins are each asthetically pleasing and unique, and filled with the spectacular collection of Thai antiques collected by Ja’s mother, Bau. But the best thing about RTH is the service; Ja and Paul went WAY beyond the call of duty to assure that every detail was handled impeccably and every guest cared for lovingly. I couldn't speak more highly of this little bit of paradise in Chiang Mai!

We have stayed 3 nights at the RT Hideaway and we had such a fantastic stay with Paul and Jaa! Feels like home really! Located a little bit outside Chiang Mai, it is a very peaceful place, with a few well decorated bungalows nested in superb nature. The main building is quite impressive too, very wel decorated as well, and perfect to rest a bit. Paul and Jaa are really doing everything they can to make your stay enjoyable, find you a taxi, suggests some trips, anything you name it. Their cooking is really fabulous if you are into Thai food: vegetables, noodles, duck/chicken, ... and really fabulous cakes (you must try the passion fruit one). Like many places in Thailand, there are dogs, but these ones are very educated and friendly, and even non dogs lovers will find them nice. Definitely a recommended place for a peaceful, hassle free stay in Chiang Mai. They recently opened a small cafe, which is absolutely awesome, with delicious food, so you can basically get fresh food at (almost) anytime! Last but not least, they recommended us a lady who is doing therapeutic massages and who has wonderful hands, so if you have some pain in muscles/bones she could make wonders, at a very reasonable price. Absolutely worth it too!

Room Tip: Dont forget to visit the nice cafe! ;)
