We booked our stay with Lyceum with a travel agent while we were still in Bangkok, before we had seen it.. We were led to believe that it was in a very central location-- it is NOT.
The hotel itself is fine-- Our room was spacious, quiet and clean and the beds were fairly comfortable. But it's located on the very outskirts of Old Town. The travel agent tried to tell us that it was central because it was so close to Wat Phra Singh (the popular temple) but in truth it's a good 3 blocks behind the temple... and a 15-20 minute walk from the 'centre' of old town. We felt very, very isolated out there. It was so isolated that we would go out in the morning, and not want to go back to the hotel at all during the day because it was such a trek back. This felt very limiting to us, especially if we were hot & tired and just wanted to rest a little bit in the middle of the day.
Again, I want to say that the hotel ITSELF is fine. Once we were back in our room for a night, we were content. But getting to and from the hotel to anything worth seeing was a disappointment.
If we ever find ourselves in Chiang Mai again, we would not stay at Lyceum.More
