Description: The Moat is a cozy restaurant/bar located, as the name suggests, beside the moat that encloses Chiang Mai's Old City. We serve a huge variety of Northern Thai, Central Thai, international and vegetarian dishes (over 300 items on the menu!) so drop by for a big breakfast fry-up or a fiery tom yam! Plenty of drinks including fresh fruit juices and shakes, beers, wines and cocktails. Newspapers and magazines to browse, live sports on Satellite TV.

“Great Thai food with prices and view to match”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

I have been coming here for lunch for a number of years and have seen the restaurant go through a number of different changes. What is consistent, however, is the quality of the Thai food, range of dishes, friendliness of the staff and cheap prices. I always order the same dishes, chicken pad thai wrapped in an omelette and stir fried beef with oyster sauce and rice. This is followed by a coffee or two and a couple of hours watching the people go by on the moat and catching up with the local news courtesy of the complimentary English language newspapers and magazines. There is a choice to sit on the veranda area or in the comfort of the air conditioned interior. Thoroughly recommended!

“Ideal place to eat in Chiang Mai”
Reviewed December 3, 2012 via mobile

Really enjoyed eating here. Went a second time with a group and the waiter kindly arranged the tables so our group could sit together. All food and drink was fantastic, waiter went out of his way to make sure everyone was happy with everything. They also split the bills without us even asking so it made eating as a group much easier. Price is a bonus too, nice and cheap and lots of variety.

“Great range, great prices & great food”
Reviewed December 1, 2012 via mobile

Happened on this by chance- huge menu, very accommodating for vegetarians and meat eaters too. 243 food options, 72 drink options. Writing this review on their wifi! We had the tastes of northern Thailand platter which was amazing and papaya salad which was delicious (and spicy! - ask for not spicy if you are not keen on spice). Accompanied our meal with Thai tea. Most dishes are between 40 and 80 baht.

“Excellent”
Reviewed December 1, 2012 via mobile

We stumbled across thi little gem when walking around the area we were staying. It looked quiet so we hesitated but we said why not!
The menu was vast with plenty of options. We had spare ribs which were fab and for mains we both had chicken noodles and we thought it was the best Thai food to date. We also had 3 beers and dessert and it was 480baht in total so under €10.
The service was pleasant, The food was fantastic and it wa superb value. If you get the chance try it.

“CRAZY GOOD!!!”
Reviewed November 21, 2012 via mobile

We stayed at the famous Shangri La and the food at The Moat tasted better than the hotels ala carte meals. It's a little spot so you will have to look for it, but your belly will thankyou.

Airconditioned, clean and very polite service with English speaking capabilities.
