I was training here in February 2012 and found this gym by accident. It was near to my hotel and I saw the sign from the road side. I always avoided big gyms as they were more likely to be operated commercially and would not give you your value for money. The trainers were young fighters and Ajarn Burklerk is known as the Mohamed Ali of MuayThai. He is well sought after in Canada and in Europe. There were many farangs(foreigners) training there and staying for months to be fighters. Ajarn Burklerk also provides a simple hostel like accommodation nearby the gym and has a cafe called MuayThai kitchen operating downstairs his hostel. The food there is prepared by his wife. Highly recommended!

There are 2 training sessions, the morning starts late compared to gyms in Bangkok as Chiang Mai is cold in the mornings. On Fridays, the whole gym members would go and watch the local fight at the stadiums where one of them would be participating. Overall, the trainers and members gave me a warm welcome, its like being in a family. You dont stop training, nor learning there, unless you get tired. The gym has now been renovated since I was there, includes some gym equipment and has gained more popularity and members. I will be there again in a weeks time. It feels good to visit and train at a place where the trainers are passionate about teaching.

I spent some time this February working out at Burklerk Gyrm in the Night Bazaar area in Chiang Mai. As a beginner (no Muay Thai experience, limited boxing experience), it was the best. Master Ajan was very patient and helpful in walking me through the basics, and the rest of the folks at the gym were really friendly. The atmosphere and sense of community is great; Master Ajan invited me several times to eat at the nearby boarding house that he also operates, where many fighters stay while training.
