“Lovely Turkish Restaurant and Great Kafe in Chaing Mai”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

This place was recommended to us by a friend who told us how great the food is and how friendly the owners. We went there with great expectations and weren't disappointed not even one bit. The food is delicious, a nice break from the Asian cuisine and they also make pizza which, unlike most of the pizza available in Chiang Mai is real pizza, with real cheese and nothing sweet on it. The hot latte and the rest of the coffee they serve is also good, made with real coffee, no instants.
We also tried a few mediterranean cuisine dishes a few times we were there and they are really nice. But the thing that I like most about the place is the friendliness of the people who own it. Since we're living in Chiang Mai for some time, we got to spend our son's birthday here and we had the party at this restaurant. By my son's special request (which was initially a joke) , the chef made him a square pizza, the best we ever had so far. The place is cosy, the atmosphere is friendly and, if you want a night (or a day) out to just eat something nice, have incredibly good coffee and relax, this is the place to be. If you're into backgammons or chess, the owner will gladly play with you!

“Lovely place ,food & staff.”
Reviewed September 7, 2012

The place is lovely, the food very authentic and the owners/staff extremely helpful & caring.
They do buffets twice a week which are both worth the visit.
On a down-side the wine could be better but otherwise we loved it. Stayed for hours chatting to the owners.

“Very disappointing!”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

I am gob-smacked at the rave reviews this restaurant has received. Our experience was of a very mediocre set-up and bland food.

The seating is hard and mosquitoes abound. The tables are also quite weirdly positioned, perhaps because of the rainy season and need to place diners under cover. The effect is kind of disconcerting and the space does not feel harmonious.

Service was very good, with plenty of free water, food arriving promptly. However, the quality of the food was really poor and the servings were pathetically small. The mezze platter was chilled (straight out of the fridge) and bland except for the garlic dip. The lavas bread was doughy and tasteless. The Turkish salad was boring and contained way too much onion. The moussaka was quite pleasant but also rather bland and the serving was tiny. There were no fresh fruit juices available and the only dessert- rice pudding, which might have rounded off this inadequate meal- was not available as they had not made it,

The cost was outrageous for the size of the servings and the low quality of the pre-made food.

I am amazed that people who evidently have no talent for cooking open specialty restaurants such as this one then do not even bother to prepare some dishes which they advertise on their menus.

“Food from the heart”
Reviewed May 29, 2012

I find it hard to tell if it's food that drags me there or the friendliness of the owners and staff. The food is amazingly tasty and colourful, the chef is extremely creative and the whole atmosphere is cozy and homey. I think some cushions and a maybe a live band would help create a perfect Oriental mood.

“Wow!”
Reviewed May 23, 2012

As a regular to Chiang Mai, Kafe Otto is a new concept in the city. And I was amazed. A tip off from a friend said to order the leg of lamb and go hungry, so we placed the order and arrived a little early.

I'd never seen this area before, it's kind of off the tourist path, but what a cool place to chill for a few drinks. Me and my guests (3) loved it and stayed all night drinking just to avoid the hordes around the gate.

Anyway, the food came on time, and what a show. A huge amount of meat (and 2 of us were monsters) and some great side dishes. All this with great hosts made it an evening to remember. My friends raved about the coffee as well (I dont drink it in the evening).

I'd definitely go again just for the lamb.
