The Imperial Mae Ping Hotel
Ranked #72 of 395 Hotels in Chiang Mai
Reviewed January 17, 2013

Just spent 4nights here and found the hotel had an ideal location close to the night market and Kalare night market. If you walked further down, you can go to Warorot market and Tha Pae Road which has cheaper offerings than most night markets.

The hotel sits on an extensive piece of land, which has a garden bar,a big coffee house,a lounge cafe,a Japanese shabu shabu restaurant,2swimming pools,a spa and fitness room. One must note that the fitness room was disappointing as it had many broken machines and was too worn out due to heavy usage. You would think that a hotel with so much traffic and guests would maintain their gym. The gym opened as early as 5am and the doors werent locked til past 10pm. The treadmill, bicycle wasnt running smoothly and the weights stack was broken!! They had quite a range of dumb bells to be used and that was the safest thing to use.

The ladies toilet near the second floor swimming pool was flooded, but no maintenance sign was put on the door. This hotel was like a bus stop..many guests and if you like a quite hotel, this wouldnt be a good choice. The muaythai stadium is closeby and until past midnight, almost alternate nights, you can hear the cheers from the stadium.Overall, this hotel provides many outlets for dining, which was good. The breakfast spread was generous and worth it.

The room was comfortable, with enough space, although the toilet/bathroom area was a little smelly. Complimentary coffee, tea and drinking water and the bar was well equipped. They lobby has 3lifts,which were fast.

One tip for first timers to Chiangmai, tuk tuks are expensive and as an option, you can hail one of the red vans with an opening at the rear, with seatings at the back. Ask the driver if he is willing to go to your desired location and how much it would cost. The drivers are quite honest with their fares.

The hotel location is accesible to the night market. Furnitures in the rooms are old and outdated but still usable. The bathtub was stained. Breakfast was the same for 3 days in a row. The staffs need to go for more training in serving guests!!they are not smiling and seems not to enjoy their job except for the security guards who smiles and salute everyone.

Dear Renorxt
Thank you for your time to take to post here on trip advisor and your recent stay at our hotel. Your comments are much valued and more training for staff will be undertaken to improve their smiles. Our breakfast buffet has everyday some items changed, however it is just impossible to have everyday a complete different breakfast spread.

Staffs are friendly, honest and helpful. The location is great, nearby shopping complex, restaurant and massage parlor. Room is an issue, bed is too hard to sleep in and there's stain on the bathtub (old kinda stain where is not because the cleaning lady doesn't do her job well).

Stayed there from December 30, 2012 until January 8, 2013. Hotel is good. Location is excellent. 2 swimming pools are excellent if not big. Breakfast is great but would benefit of a bit more variety of fruit. Furniture, decor, carpets need a revamp but still acceptable. Bathrooms are quite good. Big problem is: THE STAFF! Quite unfriendly at reception. Bad when you present yourself for the 1st time. No smile, not even efficiency. I had paid for my NYE dinner and was not given a voucher; I had to wait 45 mns on the night for it to be fixed..very embarrassing. I asked to re-confirm my tickets and was told: You do it from your room Madam. I asked for directions and was told: go to the internet and find out!! Thank you very much Imperial, you must be the most unfriendly staff in Chiang Mai.

The thing I liked the most about this hotel was its location. The breakfast buffet was also very good. The room I stayed at was kind of old-looking (specially the bathroom) but it had a very nice view!.

We had interconnecting rooms on the 8th floor, not overlooking the pool area. The rooms are ok, tvs and furnishings are aged but in working order. We still heard noise, 3 nights in a row from the BBQ area. The hotel is very close to night bazaar, a cafe on the corner offered western and Thai meals, although we used room service for a few nights which was comparable in price and easy after longggg days of sight seeing. Staff at reception I also did not find to be friendly. They seemed disinterested in helping. Breakfast had a good selection but when leg groups were in seating was a problem and we were pushed Into the Japanese restaurant. Saying all that, you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: Ask for a high room on the other side of he building away from the pool/BBQ area.
