“Convenient location”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

The hotel is just 5min away from the night bazaar, very convenient I must say! Although it takes about 15min to walk to the Old City or Riverside, we still enjoyed the slow walk everyday to those 2 places. Haven't tried the spa at Imperial Mae Ping cos it's a bit expensive, so we walked 3min to the spa in Centara Duangtawan Hotel, which offered a better price and good quality. Lastly, staffs are really friendly.

Remember to ask the hotel for airport transfer (it's free!).

We stayed here for 4 nights and enjoyed ourselves.

The facility is showing its age. But overall it was a good choice. The price using Agoda was very good and we had no issues with the hotel at all. Good selection for breakfast ... multi national choices.
Location is almost ideal, within easy walk of most touristy areas. The noise from the bars below in the street might bother some folk, as they are open until early morning. It did not stop us from sleeping.
Good idea to use the same taxi for all trips. Build a good relationship and price will be easy to negotiate. We had a 6 hour multi site day trip for 700bt ($23.00) so we also gave a decent tip. Driver even had water waitung after each of our stops. Taxi # 64 tel 089-434-3964 Mr Kim

Dear Mike
Thank you for your post here on Trip Advisor and for staying at our hotel!
Your comments are very much appreciated and we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay here with us. The bars next to the hotel officially close around midnight. On few occasions they may remain open a bit longer (against the law). We are talking to the authorities to have stricter controls.
It would be nice to have another possibility to be your host whiles your on a next visit to Chiang Mai.
Kind regards from The Imperial Mae Ping Team

The hotel is set right in the middle of the city within walking distance of the night market, restaurants, massage/beauty services as well as all types of shopping. When you combine this with a clean and well fitted room, great service and a full buffet breakfast, it hits the spot for a shopping stopover. Wifi can be accessed from the rooms which is handy and not always widely available. The challenge is that shopping and nightlife are the two primary activities of Chiang Mai (the city) making the city noisy and less relaxing than the surrounding villages or areas outside of the city centre.

We enjoyed staying here - it's conveniently located for sight-seeing, the staff were very pleasant, the rooms were good value and the buffet breakfast was excellent. We were just disappointed that the hotel chose to display paintings by elephants on the walls without acknowledging the cruelty involved in training them to perform this unnatural task. Admittedly we did not know beforehand just what is involved, but a week at the exceptional Elephant Nature Park north of Chiang Mai educated us on the cruel practices used to force these beautiful animals into providing entertainment for tourists. Surely it would be just as 'interesting' to tourists to learn what goes in to producing these common souvenirs and the hotel could lift its ethical standing by not contributing to the exploitation of the country's national symbol.

At least they didn't have elephant rides in the carpark!

Room Tip: Avoid the third floor as that seemed to be where the cigarette smell was worst.

Thank you for staying at our hotel and to take the the time to comment on Trip Advisor!
We are happy to read that you have enjoyed our hotel and our services. Your comments about the display of paintings done by elephants have been noted. The third floor is actually assigned for all those who are "smokers".

Imperial Mae Ping is a 3-minute walk from the famous night bazaar, so the location is really great. You can find several restaurants and bars in the area and it's in the vicinity of the old city.
Rooms are nice, comfortable and clean and the hotel provides free WiFi internet in the rooms.
A lot of choice at the breakfast buffet in the morning and friendly staff.

Travelling alone I was immediately adopted by the staff who were very attentive the whole of my stay.

The bell boys in particular were wonderfully helpful and so polite.
Some cons:
Rooms are dated and bathroom very old looking needs a refurbish ASAP!
WIFI connection was poor in certain areas of the hotel.
HAPPY HOUR WAS THE MOST UNHAPPIEST HOUR OF THE DAY! The bar lady was a break from staff and rude. Drinks overpriced, not allowed to drink by the pool for happy hour- it literally has to be at the bar. I was running late and asked if I could take it to my room- met with a resounding no!
The spa is very overpriced- you can go to the amazing cheevaspa for the same money for 4 hours!
The pros:
Pools were beautiful and very well kept.
Breakfast had a wide selection and it was fresh and tasty.
The location is extremely great! Close to the nightbazaar as well as tapae gate!

Overall great stay and I would 100% recommend and stay again on staff service alone!
