“Good hotel at a reasonable price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2013

The hotel is a bit remote from the centre so you have to take a taxi or tuktuk to get into the city centre or old town. Other than that the hotel is quite nice, very spacious room (I was complimentary upgraded into a executive room on a high floor with a great view over the river, city and mountains). Free shuttle to the night market and complimentary Wifi in the lobby (didn't work for me however at any time I tried). Good breakfast buffet. The little pool was very cold with high rising building around which might make some people feel permanently observed.

Room Tip: Try to get a high floor room with river view.

We had a good service at this hotel. The breakfast is average, but the lunch buffet was excellent. The building is a bit old, but our room was ok. The negative point is, the location is not very good... nothing around, so you need to take a taxi or a tuk tuk everytime.. they have a free shuttle at some hours to go to the bazar market and tuk tuk is not expensive... So if you don't care, it's can be a choice, if yoy compare the price with other hotels.

I agree with all other reviews that say it is an ancient hotel with no renovation whatsoever in the last 20 years. The carpets are tired and worn out and so is the furniture . Breakfast has limited choice and in case they run out of something they will not replenish it and will say "no have , lot of people already eat" so in case u reach breakfast by 9:30 u can take a pick of the leftovers. It is a hotel that mostly caters to groups so bus loads of tourists arrive and depart at all odd times with their tour guides so the hotel also only seems to be geared to serving them and they lack personalisation towards individual guests . The staff at the reception and concierge all seem disinterested in helping u and try and sell expensive tours from their 20 yr old tour book. The location is very bad with dirty roads and a muddy river in front with nothing to do nearby there is a 7 eleven next door for buying water and snacks. We ate out most times and ordered room service once (Thai dishes) which arrived cold and in small portion sizes so decided not to eat there again . We would suggest choosing this hotel in case u have no choice .

You cant beat this, value for money. Beautiful rooms, great wifi, awesome buffet breakfast, great location and super friendly staff. Wouldnt stay anywhere else in Chiang Mai. The location is great and it is only 100 baht to go anywhere in town. Cheap cheap cheap.

We stayed here some years ago when it was the Sheraton Hotel which we enjoyed very much but now it's owned by the Holiday Inn chain and we wondered if it was as good as before.
Thankfully, it was as good as we remembered and perhaps even a notch up on the old Sheraton.
Our room overlooked the river and the city (a great vantage point for watching the New Year fireworks shows) and was spacious, clean and comfortable.
The buffet breakfasts were very wide ranging in choice and the evening meals similarly good.
The service was very good indeed throughout the hotel; the concierge desk was especially helpful.
We had one of our evening meals at the in-house China Palace restaurant. We originally opted for the buffet but, on realising that this consisited of raw meats that you cooked 'fondue' style in a boiling watery soup, we quickly changed to the 'a la carte' menu. The buffet was not for us!
The service was good but not outstanding and we had a reasonable meal in the end. A memorable night to say the least.
We would recommend this hotel without reservation, particularly if you wanted to stay out of the main town which was a lot busier with traffic than when we were here previously. The delightful medieval town centre is within convenient walking distance from the hotel. If we return to Chiang Mai in the future we would almost certainly want to stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: We had a room on one of the higher floors so you get peace and quiet and a great view of the river a...

Stayed here with my boyfriend in late November/early December for 5 nights. The service was really good in all areas of the hotel. The reception staff were really friendly, and the concierge desk helpful especially the free shuttle to the night bazaar and weekend markets. The size of the rooms were hugely above expectation with an amazing panoramic view of the river, which was especially great as we stayed during the loy krathong festival. We had a huge living room, jacuzzi bath and separate shower and also a good selection of tv channels including film channels. the bed was a good size, and the overall decor in the room was nice although it probably could do with a refurb soon. We used the outdoor hotel pool which was on the third floor and towels were supplied; we also used the spa facilities while at the hotel having a Thai massage. The restaurant supplied a good menu, in which there were different themed buffets most nights for reasonable prices; the breakfast supplied had a very good selection including English choices on request. The only drawback of the hotel for some people would be the location being a bit outside central Chiang mai, costing 200 thai baht one way, but for us this was a blessing in disguise. We would definitely recommend to stay here, the value for money was phenomenal and we would definitely stay here again if we were to return to Chiang mai.

Room Tip: Pay more for the river view, definitely worth it!
