My husband and I spent 10 nights in this hotel in February 2013 , we found the hotel perfect for our stay , the rooms while not huge are nice, clean and have all the facilities you could need, the pool was small but very nice to sit by or for a dip after being out all day ...
Pros:
Room was nice and had been renovated
pool was lovely place to spend an afternoon
the lobby bar was great , we sat there a few evenings and had drinks
the bar at the front is very nice cheap prices for cocktails etc and a great place to watch the night market .
the breakfast was adequate ...tea and coffee hot and eggs done any way you like what more do you want
the front doorman and the security guard outside were fantastic calling taxis and getting the traffic to stop so we could cross the road and so nice always smiling and say good morning
every day
the tour desk staff in the hotel was very helpful with some great ideas on what we could do and also on just getting around Chiang Mai
reception staff were outstanding especially the afternoon girl she had a giant smile on her face every time we saw her she was wonderful
Cons:
the rooms a little dark due to buildings next door but in the end worked out good as the room was quiet ...
getting in and out of the lift requires precise timing as the lift shuts quickly..

all in all I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to be near the night market ..thank you for a lovely 10 days

Room Tip: ask for a room at the back of the hotel as the noise is not noticed there

My boyfriend and I stayed for 4 nights at Royal princess in Dec 2012. What impressed us the most is the service of the front desk staff, and especially Ms. Somporn. It was even better than the 5 start hotels we stayed in Bangkok. Somporn was super helpful with out bookings and full of suggestions. The tours she found for us were even cheaper had we booked online directly with the travel agency.

As for the room, it is important to get a non smoking floor if you are a non smoker. The smoking floor is really smelly and the rooms were not renovated. The non-smoking room we got later on was much nicer with a shower instead of bathtub.

The hotel is well located, right across the night bazaar. It is walkable to the downtown core (10-15min).

Overall we had a great time at Royal Princess and the service is better than 5 star hotels.

A great hotel is not so much about glitz and glamour as kind, attentive and genuine staff and excellent service. This is what you'll get at the Dusit Princess. She is old but rooms are spacious, well designed and comfortable. The location is unbeatable
Most impressive during our week long stay however were the fantastic staff especially at the pool during weekdays, the cleaning staff, concierges and security staff. On my last day I fell and broke an ankle needing surgery and a hospital stay before being repatriated home. Royal Princess staff were exceptional from literally picking me up from the street to transporting my husband and I to hospital. Aod the head of security accompanied us and waited for 4 hours to translate and organise a private room, xrays and surgery. The next day the hotel sent 2 staff members with fruit and flowers and a cake for my husband's birthday. We are still overwhelmed by their kindness and the hotels utter professionalism and genuine care for their guests.
We cannot recommend the hotel and its backbone, the staff, enough. We loved our stay there and even though it ended dramatically, will have fond memories of the Dusit Princess.

Location is bang in the middle of the night bazaar area if you are keen to see and shop. It really couldn't be better. The staff were super attentive and friendly.

The rooms are a good size, slightly dated but clean and has everything you'd need, including a good shower.

Breakfast was a standard buffet affair, you'll find anything you want.

Stayed here for 3 nights while holiday in chiang mai after staying in bangkok. The hotel is not big but everything is there and orderly. The hotel is old but had done some renovations. The hotel is located right in front of the famous chiang mai night bazaar.
The hotel staff is great and polite. Will greet whenever they see you except the staff in buffet breakfast cafe which cold.
The room is great and with night bazaar view in the night but with slow traffic view in the daytime. The room is not big but is functional with full amenities.
The bathroom is not big and come with shower but there is some flaw in the design which make the water running into the room during shower. So i need to request extra towel just to block the water from running into room.
The buffet breakfast is not much variety but adequate. The staff in the cafe is cold and barely move to clean the table or to refill coffee or tea, they even no bother asking for my room number.
On the hand, the lobby lounge staff is very friendly and polite. The cocktails they made is very good, especially the mai thai and cosmopolitan.
When going out, there are plenty taxi for you to choose from outside the hotel. Just do some bargain and you are on the way.
Overall, this hotel is good for relax stay except some flaw in bathroom design and the staff in buffet breakfast cafe.
Last but not least, i find out there are some mosquito in the lobby during my last night stay while enjoying the cocktails. Although they are many mosquito repellant attach. At least no mosquito follow me back to the room.
