Read many reviews stated that wifi is not free in this hotel, that really making me hesitated in booking it. However, it turns out that, wifi is free nowaday, though many rules applied. First, only 1 user name & password provided, which last for 24 hours, based on accumulated usage. To get the subsequent 24hrs, they will check, and making sure that you have really finished it, before issue you a new slip. Troublesome!

As others stated, this hotel is a bit aging, but with the rate charge, it really worth the price. Clean, everything work well, with small swimming pool, reasonable priced in-house massage (2 hrs thai massage for 500bt).
The is a supermarket just next door, where you can get anything from there.

The only cons that I would say, is the location. Far from the city, far for the happening area, minimum 20mins walk needed to reach Thapae gate. So, if you prefer to stay close to the central of activity, you should choose a hotel near Thapae Gate (like Imm Hotel, or M hotel).
Otherwise, you can do what I did, rent a scooter bike (cheap, 250bt/day) and you are free to move around then.
Not to forget, the hotel do provided free shuttle bus to the night bazaar area, I attached a photo showing the schedule as per May 2012.
They also provide shuttle bus to airport, charging at 100bt per person. If you are travelling solo, might consider it! Otherwise, you can hire a private taxi from hotel at 150bt.

Mercure Chiang Mai is an aging conventional hotel where I would say its interior lobby decoration is far better than its fading exterior look. Rooms and bathrooms are quite old and outdated. But not to be worried, Mercure still keeps its good standard of cleanliness well enough.

What I like the most of Mercure is its service quality. Staff are very attentive and helpful in all areas, from the doorman to lobby, kitchen, and maids.

Location of Mercure Chiang Mai is not in a walking distance to any attractions but red-cab trucks, easily found in front of the hotel, can take you to anywhere in town. The hotel also provides shuttle services to Night bazaar (Free) and Airport (100 Bht per person each way) but it is at its best if you rent a car or motorbike. Above all, there's a supermarket right next door!

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms are connected with ballroom/seminar rooms. Not a private choice.

An excellent hotel for a conference setting. Great restaurant. A bit far from the downtown but an easy tuk tuk ride to restaurants. I really enjoyed my stay. A good grocery store next door.

I stayed here with my family (wife and two girls, 11 and 14) in April 2012. I cannot speak highly enough of the friendly and helpful attitude of all the staff.
The rooms are simple but very satisfactory and most important, clean. They were able to offer us interconnecting rooms which they confirmed in advance for us.
While the location of the hotel is not in the 'thick of all the action', the cost of tuk tuks is around 80 Baht (about $2.20 AUS) to get to pretty much anywhere you want to go within the city. This price was for four of us and often at night which is a little more than 1 or 2 people during the day. Very reasonable. Of course some negotiating has to be done to ensure you will get a The night market is only about 5 minutes by tuk tuk and the Aiport Plaza (shopping centre) less than 10 minutes.
We ate breakfast each morning at the hotel and had dinner there one night also. All food was very nice althought the selection at the breakfast buffet was not as wide as some other hotels we have stayed at. No complaints though. We did not make use of any other hotel facilities.
I have rated the 'sleep quality' as average as the bed was i bit too firm for my liking. If you like a firm bed, this should not be a problem.
Although we get the Accor member prices, I think even the rack rate makes this hotel very good value for money. Would definately stay here again if we return to Chiang Mai.
