I staid in the Jangmuang Boutique House with my wife for two nights while traveling through SE Asia. We wanted to have a decent and central stay and that is exactly what we got. I don't think it is the prettiest guest house that we have encountered in the region but it was definitely a nice place to stay.

Located off the busy area, its wooden build is charming and welcoming. Plenty of nooks to sit, rest and enjoy the slower pace. Room is clean, bed is comfortable, bathroom is spacious with plenty of clean towels. We took the quad room and it was perfect for 4 adults except that with only one bathroom and one toilet both featuring glass doors, it takes a bit of planning. The staff are helpful in making arrangements and advising where to go. Only drawbacks are the stairs which means that heavy suitcases have to be lugged up and the air con temperatures that remained the same regardless of what the settings are.

Room Tip: Get an upstairs room

My wife and I stayed over at Jangmuang Hotel and we are very glad of that. Room was very good, clean and big (I suggest taking one at the upper floor though). Hotel is well located also and staff is friendly and speak enough English. Perhaps would like to have more variety in the breakfast. We recommend it.

We only moved to because the previous hotel was running out of room on our last day and stayed here for one night. It was a charming place. The overall deco of the hotel was quite unique. The room was not very spacious but it was already good enough for this price and it was indeed neat and clean and our room had this view right to the hotel relax area. The staff here were extremely nice. When we went there they were hanging Xmas decorations all around and it was really nice. Location was good as well. Overall I would say it's a really nice stay here and next time I'd probably wanna stay longer.

Set on a quiet road in the south-west part of the old town, within 10 minutes walk of all the major attractions. We initially had rooms on the ground floor and luckily managed to change to usptairs - make sure you book upstairs! Ground floor rooms are smelly, dingy and dark. So our new room was spacious, clean, light with interesting wooden decor, nice views over the temple opposite, tea & coffee, fridge. In short, everything we wanted. It was almost tempting just to sit there all day. Breakfast is good with eggs, fruit & toast, as well as an extra dish every day - chicken soup, egg fried rice, etc. Always very good. It's served in the courtyard and the reception area - try and grab a table in reception area as less smelly. Staff were friendly and helpful when we had issues even if it sometimes took several attempts. Easy to park outside the hotel. Worth exploring the small lanes just south of it - green & tranquil. Would stay again.

We were very happy with Jangmuang Boutique House. We stayed in 2 rooms, and both were large and decorated beautifully with lots of wood, Thai textiles and other art. The upstairs room (billed as being for 4 people) has 2 beds in 1 large room, plus a kitchen area with fridge, a large, attractive bathroom and a big balcony with table and chairs overlooking the street action and a temple there. The downstairs room we tried was also lovely and large with a separate little desk and kitchen area. The lighting is a bit dim for reading or putting on makeup, fyi. The location was great, just 1.5 blocks south of the main drag on Rajadamnoen St. in the Old City. We liked being away from the very heavily touristed Thapae Gate area, with its fast food and such. It was still very easy to grab a tuk-tuk or find a meal where we were. (A really popular northern Thai restaurant, Huen Phen, is just down the street but was closed while I was there.) Breakfast was nice, basically eggs and toast, with fruit and something extra every day; you fill out a slip each day saying whether you want coffee/tea, fried or scrambled eggs. One morning the extra item was rice porridge; one day it was a sticky rice/coconut treat. It was plenty for me, though they seem to scrimp a bit on the coffee ("one cup only" is stated on the menu card). Lots of kids do seem to hang out sometimes outside, so you may find the street-facing room on that level to be a little noisy at time. The people working at Jangmuang were pleasant and helpful with this notable exception: One morning a group of 4-6 was eating in the open breakfast area, about to check out, when one employee, a chunky young Thai woman, went over, held up a towel, and said, "You owe us 100 baht for damaging this towel." Um, OK. Then she returned a few minutes later with a sheet and held it up in the middle of everyone and said, "You owe us for staining this sheet too." It was very, very tacky and kind of mortifying for everyone, completely lacking in discretion or subtlety. There's no reason in the world to have done this so publicly, and I was shocked at the lack of concern for the privacy of the guests.

Room Tip: The upstairs room for four is really nice and not too expensive by American standards.

Stayed for 5 nights here after 3 nights in Bangkok. We had 2 rooms: 301 and 401. Both were lovely; 401 has a balcony. It was clean and beautiful, with air conditioning or screened windows to let in a breeze. Only complaint? The bed in 401 is hard as a rock! They could also use some bedside reading lamps. But it's definitely a sweet place to stay, and there's some great food just down the road: go left out of the door a couple of blocks and you'll find a small restaurant with lanterns outside run by a few ladies. Excellent food! Just down the street from there is a Thai barbecue place where you cook your own food over hot coals, and if you make another left at the barbecue place and travel on a few blocks, there's a night food market. Delicious! Easy enough to get to everything fun, lots of museums in walking distance, red trucks everywhere. We had a great stay.
