“Nice budget hotel in Chiang Mai”
Reviewed July 31, 2014

This hotel is located in the best location on Huay Kaew Rd. nearby Central Kad Suan Kaew shopping mall, the way to Doi Suthep temple. I was warm welcomed from the staff at a front desk and check-in process was very fast. The room was clean and modern with a large window in a reasonable price. Bathroom was quite large but a little bit dirty on a shower area. No breakfast service but frozen food and snacks were prepared at the 2nd fl. with a mini living corner. All I wanna say, B2 Green is a great budget hotel in Chiang Mai.

Room Tip: High floor is better than lower.

I have had two experiences with this snooty hotel staff: once 3 months ago when I inquired about longterm stays and was given contradictory information by different staff members, and a second time tonight when I went to inquire about hotel facilities for a friend who is coming to Chiang Mai. The night staff has no customer service training and doesn't speak English, and the day staff is haughty and always claims they have no rooms, whether they do or not. Perhaps it is because they are saving them for the busloads of mainland Chinese tourists who descend on this quiet corner of the Santitham district nightly. Regardless of the reason, there is no excuse for a chain as big as B2 to put up with this kind of behavior from staff members. They need to do a clean sweep and hire some competent, well-trained and courteous workers.

Tip: Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai don't have much to see and they can be pricey for what you get. A couple of hours is more than enough.
Tip2: private cab from the airport to this hotel is 120 Baht.
Cons: staff doesn't speak English and they are always laughing at (foreign) guests. The staff is not used to foreigns. Very rude.
Terrible location, far away from everything.
Breakfast not included (there is no restaurants or coffee shops nearby).
Deluxe rooms are a bad value for money specially on weekends.
Very disorganized.
First night we stayed in a deluxe room. They told us that the hotel was fully booked. Before we left my husband asked again to another person... And they had one!! Super disorganized.
The deluxe room has a really weird decor: the carpet is fake plastic grass and the bed is a mattress on the floor. The bathroom is huge but doesn't look great.
All the room have a huge very green fridge, flat screen tv and DVD player.
The deluxe room is too dark: few lights and super grey walls.
I found this room a bad value for money. We paid 790 Bath for it.
In the 2nd night we changed to a standard room that was much better and cheaper, 550. It had a proper bed, more lights and no grass carpet. It was more functional too.
The staff doesn't care about customers satisfaction and they look proud in show it all time. The management team is a disaster. Very incompetent.
We saw a maid lying on a bed watching TV. When we left,at 6.30 am, the receptionists were sleeping in the sofas in the lobby. And our cab driver was seat in another sofa looking at them.
You almost need to hire a translator to book a room or interact with the staff.
The always try to overcharge you. They are so disorganized that they never know if you already paid or not. Make sure that you ask for a receipt and keep it.
Overall, the standard room is a good value for money during weekdays. But the location and the staff are terrible. It works better if you have a car. There is a park. But if you are taking public transportation you should consider that you never pay less than 50 Bath/pp to take a shared red cab. And if you call one from the hotel the cab drivers will try to overcharge you even more. We took one from the bus station to the hotel, at night, and we paid 50 bath each. Every time that we called it from the hotel they never charged us less than 150 Bath. Once they tried to charge us 200 (the staff will not help you, they will be completely indifferent, they don't care) for the same service (the driver picked up some locals in the street to share it with us) and route.
You can also try to find another B2 hotel location or try to get a good deal online. We saw a nice hotel next to the night market (other side of the river) for 690.

Room Tip: standard rooms are OK. The deluxe is too weird.

Surprisingly more given than what we paid for. This budget hotel has new concepts, more modern design. Very relaxing place to stay and go out traveling in town. Good for crashing if your are just looking for a jive place to crash. If your looking for more, there are more expensive ones out there.
In town, quite a good location.
Staffs are good and nice.

Very creative, trendy, new interior. Clean. Quiet location and 5min walk to main street where you can take a bath taxi anywhere for 20THB. Good value and cool atmosphere. Only minus, its a bit hard to find first time, just tell the taxi to go to YMCA and walk from there. Will come again!

During hot season most places rates drop to something VERY affordable. Traveling in and around Thailand since February, I have stayed in many guesthouses and seen the way different cities and level of accommodations charge their guests. My girlfriend and I stayed at B2 green mostly because we did not want to rent a motorbike for the whole stay in Chiang Mai, and it is conveniently enough located to walk to Namman, Old City, and some other places. We had been to Chiang Mai before, and our previous guesthouse (Sunshine House) was all booked up.

Unless we know the guesthouse personally, we usually only book a few nights to see if we like it, then ask to stay longer. So let me give some pros and cons:

PROS: pretty new-ish rooms, divider in the bathroom between the shower and the toilet (not the most common thing in Thailand) and conveniently located (unless you want to be in Old City the most, then it is a long walk). Also, we had a room on the 4th floor, on the west side of the building, so the large window in the room gave us a pretty excellent view of the sunset over the Doi Suthep mountain.

CONS: The price is a bit too high for the tiny little room you get, the walls are not even close to sound proof and we had to bang on our wall a few times to get neighbors to shut up at 1am (not B2 greens fault, just pointing out noise could be a issue), the TV has HDMI connection, but you cannot reach it because of the way it is mounted on the wall, no desk or anywhere to sit at a computer (don't let their pictures fool you, that little desk by the TV is maybe 10 inches deep) and the lighting is all in the entry area, not in the bed area (except for some "chic" built in lights that don't put off enough light to read a book). I mentioned the amazing view in the PROS, however that large window gave off so much heat, the AC could barely keep the room cool until hours after the sun went down...

Also, when we asked about extended stay prices, they said no discounts. This is pretty unacceptable for Thailand - everyone gives a special rate if you stay a week or a month. Not that we planned to stay their any longer than our planned few days (we went to Puri Pimman instead) but we asked, and they denied a discounted rate (not to mention, this is during hot season!).

I would shop around more before going to B2 green, but for a clean room in a quiet part of town, it isn't the worse place you could be. They are just a bit pricier and have smaller rooms (with that list of frustrations above) than their equal competitors.
