Come Chiangmai - a solid "C" experience

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 14, 2012
We stayed only two nights before moving on to a better hotel for the same price right next door (Pha Thai). The staff were not very friendly - barely so much as offering a smile. The room was quite clean but strangely laid out. There was a small TV so far away from the bed that you could barely watch it.The bed was quite uncomfortable - hard & lumpy. No electrical outlets in the bathroom. The decor was a bit tired - stained walls & bed linens. On the second day of our stay they were pumping out the sewage system - had the trap door in front of the downstairs restrooms open and huge roaches were scurrying about mere feet from the kitchen.
It can be a bit of a cavernous & noisy place. The room doors creak & bang when opened & closed.
I'm much more impressed with the Pha Thai just next door. It has vastly more charm, friendlier staff, and a gorgeous garden area.

Stayed here for one night. Staff are friendly and helpful. Room was clean and nice with a sweet little balcony looking over the street. Only problem was the hot water in my shower was not good, but it was warm anyways so I didn't bother asking anyone to fix it.
Close to walking market but also far enough away. Cafes and restaurants nearby. Would stay here again.

I stayed 10 days in this hotel in june 2012.
This hotel/guesthouse was before owned by different people and the two sisters and husband taking care of the place were just upgrading everything to their standards since they took care of the place a month before.

I honestly say that this hotel rised my overall experience of Chiang Mai (already an amazing place) by about 185% (yes).

The owners gave me a fairer price for staying longer.
Wi-fi was amazing (1Mbits/s) with a constant availability.
The breakfast is delicious and the Iced mocha and Ice coffee etc. is to die for.
The personnel was amazingly nice.

If you plan to stay a long time, my advice is to try to get one of the rooms in front of the hotel. I stayed in the one at the first floor.
There is a little traffic noise (litte and none at night or in the morning) but the rooms are amazingly cozy with the bed just invites you to lazy mornings.
Aircon was top notch.
Bathroom and shower were amazing and the sink in there is just lovely giving the room (when bathroom door is opened you have a big big mirror giving even more space to the room).
The balcony on the street was small but enough for a bit of relaxing and space for eventual couples.

So all details were great all the way.
Also you have a garden in the back for relaxing (5 small kittens were hiding from all my attempts to get close over there), balconies behind the hotel to enjoy thee sight of the garden for breakfast if you want to etc.

The small singing voice of the little girl of the neighbor gave me with the whole setting fond memories.

As you understand from this review, I highly recommend the place for solo travelers in search of comfort like me or a bit of cozy romantic place for couples or travelers on the go who want a functional room.

Note that some rooms (the ones in the middle of the building) are a bit dark and maybe not for spending lazy days in your hotel room like I sometimes did (they are also cheaper) so just ask to look for the room you like.

The only thing I would theoretically upgrade (but the cost is probably high) is double windows for even better phonic isolation.

I highly recommend this place for comfort, relaxation, amazing gentleness of the people taking care of it, Iced mochas and generally Iced coffee (or hot coffee ... or anything coffee as they use a proper machine to do it), breakfast, Wi-fi and its position in the old city.

Whatever you do, enjoy Chiang-Mai as it is an amazing city.

Room tip: Rooms in the middle are a bit dark so depending on how long you stay and if you plan to enjoy the coziness sof the hotel maybe try to get a room at either end (front - coziness and romantic setting - or back - really spacious -) of the hotel. Also, do try the restaurant, especially any of their coffee (may it be hot, iced, shake, mocha, cappuccino etc.)

Friendly staff, excellent location. Breakfast has multiple choices (8). Wifi works well. No frills, but cheap price reflects that. We stayed for 3 nights... and then stayed again on our return trip.

There was an issue once where the water stopped working in our room, but they moved/upgraded us and even discounted the price from the original room. Excellent customer service.

Stayed here only for 2 nights, just to check different hotel rooms in Chiang Mai. Though it is a bit far from the night bazar area... Can definitely call this hotel comfy as it is very nice and trendy decorated. It is simple, but just has everything you need to overnight! Don't expect any thrills.. But you don't even pay for all that! It's absolutely the money worth you pay per night! I tried 2 different rooms, one with big windows, very small sized, but street side, so quiet noisy... And the 2nd one, had only windows in the bathroom, which was enough for me... But way more spacious and not noisy at all!
They also provide you free WI Fi in the room. And a simple breakfast in the morning. There is no lift in the property, so can not recommend to disabled persons! All staf very friendly and helpful.
The matras was ok (regarding the rate/classification) but could be more comfortable. What I wanna say is that, you can and may not expect all the luxury you will have in a 4 or 5 star property if you don't pay for it!!!
A laundry just next door and enough eateries, 7 elevens and some shops on the same street.

Would easily come back to this hotel, even though it is a bit far from the city center!

Room tip: Rooms on the street side could be a bit noisy
