I decided to just walk around Chiang Mai and go up and down canal streets and saw this temple. More modern and impressive and the old temple behind it add some feeling as well.

When you enter the door you begin to understand the amazing architecture and dedication that the people have given to building this monument to the bhuddist faith, no cameras inside so get a good look :). The carvings and meeting the monks with our guide was one of the best moments of my travels in Chiang Mai

Just near the junction with Huay Kaew Road is this large old temple and chedi - in a pleasent garden setting with Chinese images. Temple floodlit at night - does take you a little out of the way but worth seeing - toilets at petrol station adjacent to Temple.

driver stopped us in our tracks as we walked down the road in the sweltering heat & took us here. I'm not much into temples but this one was quite interesting & worth a visit. The tuk tuk driver seemed to have great pleasure in taking photos of my giant husband getting in & out of the tuk tuk. He was probably buttering us up to take us to the silk, diamond, & leather place. All very interesting & I don't mind helping him get his free petrol vouchers, but when he said there was only 6 more I had to get tough with him & demand to be be taken back to where he got me from.

Wat Lok Molee is a Buddhist temple situated on the north side of the north moat surrounding the old part of the city about 400 meters west of the Chang Phuak city gate. It is not known when the temple was built but it is first mentioned in a charter in 1367 CE. The sixth king of the Mengrai dynasty, King Kuena (1355-1385) invited ten Buddhist monks from Burma to spread their teachings on Theravada Buddhism. The monks were housed in this temple. In 1527, King Ket (also known as Mueangketklao or Phra Kaew Muang) commissioned the chedi and in 1545, he also had the viharn (assembly hall) built. The ashes of several members of the Mengrai dynasty were placed in this temple . Until the demise of their dynasty, the Mengrai royal family took the responsibility for maintaining the temple.
