This was the second trek I have completed in Thailand and by far the best. The main difference to me was the smaller group and the fact we actually left the tourist trail, in fact the only other people we saw whilst walking were a small group of locals picking leaves.
I'd asked for an all round more demanding trek and the first couple of km were very easy, well maintained trails running over hanging bridges and through amazing waterfalls. Unbelievably beautiful but I remember starting to think its not really the challenge I was after. Then the guide stopped and pointed to a lesser trail going up, very steep and disappearing into thick jungle. It had gone from a walk to feeling like an intrepid explorer, which was great.
We reached the top of this very steep ridge and I was knackered, think the heat had taken more out of me than expected. Luckily we stopped for lunch and after some nice Thia food and a mixture of fruit. We set off down a long winding trail that followed this mountain ridge to our destination. All in all a perfect mixture of terrain, scenery and intensity.
