I'd highly recommend this unique boutique hotel to those visiting Chiang Mai.

We experienced 5 star service throughout our stay, including daily news personalized for us (Canada edition of newspaper), nightly turndown service with cookies and bedtime story, a steady supply of fresh tropical fruit in our room, a butler at our disposal to attend to our every need, and cheerful, friendly staff throughout the hotel complex.

Our room was spacious and well appointed (we stayed in the Raja suite). The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on at any hotel in the world. The food was also exceptional. The breakfast was delicious, with a good selection of Western and Asian dishes. We had dinner here one night in the hotel restaurant and it was the best meal of our trip (and at a reasonable price for a high end hotel). We would particularly recommend the Lanna-style curry.

We did not want to leave after only two nights here.

You wind thru the crazy narrow lanes and chaotic traffic noise and confusion of smells and smog and humidity and then you turn a corner and you are transported into a past millennium. The cool peaceful serenity of the majestic 137 Pillars descends on you and like in the movie Lost Horizon you are suddenly on the other side! It's amazing close to the city and the exciting nightlife of the riverside and all you have to do is step out and tuk tuks are at yr beck and call. Amazingly exciting food and drinks at very reasonable prices are a short 5 minute walk away.

Within its compounds you are pampered with spacious rooms attached with romantic balconies. Watch out for equally romantic mosquitoes outdoors though. You have an fabulous breakfast at the main house after which this top 50 small luxury hotel in the world is named. Anna Leonowens' son Louis resided there when he worked for the East India Company which owned the mansion which had exactly 137 teak pillars. A romantic story behind a romantic weekend. It's everything everyone says it is. There are much cheaper and plentiful options for accommodations nearby but 137 Pillars is really an experience not to miss.

This is a great resort, with uncommonly comfortable beds covered with top quality linens – a good night’s sleep is top priority for me, and this hotel delivered. Booked with Andaman Adventures as the Chiang Mai stop in a lengthy tour of the region which also took in Bangkok and the southern beaches – great holiday, thanks to them for that. Our bathroom well equipped with both indoor and outdoor showers. The historical photos in the room gave a feel of CM’s history, which is a rich one, it used to be the capital of an independent kingdom called Lanna, which when translated means a million fields. The hotel is luxurious without being passé, it has a good location and is pleasingly close to the night market, where we shopped for art and furniture, which we then had shipped home. CM is the best place in Thailand to go shopping for art, pottery, ceramics and furniture, all the stuff the Chatuchak market comes doen from up north and you’re better off buying it direct from the factories up north – we did and saved a bomb.

The gardeners were seemingly ubiquitious and made the grounds a a joy to relax in and take a stroll round. The original pillared house (I couldn’t count 137 pillars so don’t know where that comes from) was vetry beautiful and an ornament to the hotel. Most important of everything wss the staff, who went above and beyond on a consistent basis, and many of whom spoke surprisingly good English. As soon as we arrived at the hotels and checked out the landscaping we knew we’d chosen the right place. The breakfast buffet had a huge selection and the food was very good and varied.

The rooms here are really beautiful with little exotic Asian finishing touches everywhere. I don’t like staying in a room and waking up, opening my eyes and thinking “where am I, tis hotel room could be anywhere?”

Good swimming pool, wifi a bit slow especially outside the room, good spa with an extensive menu.

Dear Mr. Yoichi,

Thsnk you for your kind words and excelent ratings. This is much appreciated.

Please note that the old teak house stood, indeed, on 137 pillars. Some got lost during the restoration of the house but knowing that the house was, in the past, known lovingly as " Baan 137 sao" translated into the house with the 137 Pillars, the owners decided to stick with this catchy name for their hotel.

We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Resprctfully yours,

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights in the Rajah Brroke suite as part of our honeymoon. We had been in touch with hotel prior about it and we were assured that they would do everything possible to make our stay memorable.

Not only was our stay memorable but we felt so welcome from the moment we set foot In the hotel.

The grounds are immaculate and stunning, the room (old English colonial) was extremely luxurious and the food was scrumptious.

We are both vegetarians - every day the exec chef spoke with us and came up with a tailor made menu for us - this is service you cannot simply find in larger, generic hotels.

The front office staff were amazing, friendly and very attentive.

All in all, if ever I return to Chiang Mai, I know where we are staying.

Thank you 137Pillars!!!

We really enjoyed the nice atmosphere at 137 Pillars house, beautiful hotel with absolute tastefully decorated rooms and high level of amenities. The service was very nice and helpful, always eager to answer questions.
What we did not like, the nighttime noise of the clubs in the close vicinity do not allow any sleep before 2.00 or 3.00 am. Also, some of the hotel guests went to the clubs but unfortunately were not able to find their rooms at 6.00am in the morning and knocked on our door.

What can I say, the location, the people, the service, the food, the breakfast buffet, the rooms, everything is first rate. There really is mother reason to look at other hotels in Chiang Mai if you want a luxury, high-end hotel. The staff knew us and remembered our name throughout our entire stay. The chef one day for breakfast brought us a a bunch of his creations which we really enjoyed. I mean if Owen Wilson is staying at this hotel, it says it all. Lastly, the rooms are immaculate and well decorated. The balconies on each room is very big and a good place for an afternoon nap.

This hotel is beautiful. It is brand new and the grounds are incredible. If you are looking for a great escape, this is the spot. Quiet, peaceful and excellent service. The staff are incredibly friendly and speak very strong English. The hotel is just a quick tuk tuk ride away from the old city and I would recommend it to anyone visiting the region and looking for a tranquil and luxurious experience.

The duvet cover and pillows were so comfortable that we requested the company name and inquired into purchasing for our own home.

My only critique and it is a small one is that the breakfast buffet should be expanded to include more typical items vacation items such as bacon, but this is really nit-picking.

Thank you very much for your lovely review of 137 Pillars House...

And Bacon is, like many more breakfast items, certainly available. Due to the limited space however, some of the breakfast selection aren't displayed but may happily be requested.

The team and I look forward to hopefully welcoming you back again in the near future.
