We'd read the reviews of 137 Pillars House both before booking and in the weeks before our stay, and felt confident we weren't going to be disappointed. We weren't.
Quite simply this is everything a hotel should be. The rooms and every other inch of this property are exquisitely designed. The staff, without exception, are constantly attentive but never intrusive. During a conversation with one of the most outstanding team members we experienced, Ray, we discovered that there's a constant waiting list of people wanting to work there. That in itself speaks volumes.
We stayed three nights and will extend that to seven next time around as you could never grow tired of the place. We felt at home so soon that we opted to stay on site for almost all of our stay. Our daily routine became one of simple relaxation in a superb setting - late breakfast till 11am, followed by five hours at the poolside with its hanging garden (a site for sore eyes, hearts, and minds), back to the suite for shower and drinks, then dinner.
Only one small gripe - there was a wedding during our stay, as well as some kind of corporate event, over two consecutive days. Both took over large sections of this relatively small boutique hotel, and in the case of the wedding it lasted from early morning until late at night. On that particular day we opted to leave the hotel and eat elsewhere. Meanwhile, the corporate event impacted on service levels as staff struggled to cater for staying guests and visitors.
I mention this not to detract from an overwhelmingly positive experience but so that management might take it on board. I would especially recommend that when corporate or other events are planned that a simple explanatory note be left in guest suites the day before, advising that the additional number of visitors may impact on noise and service levels. This would make all the difference.
