“Remarkable for every right reason, but be aware of weddings etc”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

We'd read the reviews of 137 Pillars House both before booking and in the weeks before our stay, and felt confident we weren't going to be disappointed. We weren't.

Quite simply this is everything a hotel should be. The rooms and every other inch of this property are exquisitely designed. The staff, without exception, are constantly attentive but never intrusive. During a conversation with one of the most outstanding team members we experienced, Ray, we discovered that there's a constant waiting list of people wanting to work there. That in itself speaks volumes.

We stayed three nights and will extend that to seven next time around as you could never grow tired of the place. We felt at home so soon that we opted to stay on site for almost all of our stay. Our daily routine became one of simple relaxation in a superb setting - late breakfast till 11am, followed by five hours at the poolside with its hanging garden (a site for sore eyes, hearts, and minds), back to the suite for shower and drinks, then dinner.

Only one small gripe - there was a wedding during our stay, as well as some kind of corporate event, over two consecutive days. Both took over large sections of this relatively small boutique hotel, and in the case of the wedding it lasted from early morning until late at night. On that particular day we opted to leave the hotel and eat elsewhere. Meanwhile, the corporate event impacted on service levels as staff struggled to cater for staying guests and visitors.

I mention this not to detract from an overwhelmingly positive experience but so that management might take it on board. I would especially recommend that when corporate or other events are planned that a simple explanatory note be left in guest suites the day before, advising that the additional number of visitors may impact on noise and service levels. This would make all the difference.

Room Tip: Ask for a suite that doesn't overlook the open area where corporate and other events are held.

Lovely gem of a hotel. Enjoyed our stay here, boutique hotel with a difference
Amazing architecture too. Spa was also very nice. Very expensive though........
Especially given that there is no death of hotel properties in Thailand....

We stayed three nights at 137 Pillars in October 2013. It is centrally located and a very short walk to good restaurants and the commercial ares of Chiang Mai. The breakfast and food in the hotel is highly recommended. The staff were most helpful in arranging any tours, taxis, or just general information and with a smile.i would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting this area.

Stayed at 137 in November 2013.

We arrived quite early--10am--after a flight from busy, dirty Bangkok, and found 137 a wonderful calm hotel with pretty grounds, and an attentive staff. The hotel made our room available 3hrs before check-in time at 11am, and while we were waiting, treated us to Thai Coffees at the hotel restaurant. Room was spacious and well-equipped, if a bit on the pricey side.

The location is a bit outside the real hustle and bustle of Chang Mai, which makes it quite serene, but it's close enough to easily walk there in ~15min.

Room Tip: The East Borneo suite had a nice balcony, though the outdoor shower was weirdly shaped

Complimentary mini bar (for beer and soft drinks), nice and friendly staff, great location, unique, has character, attention to detail, charming, great breakfast buffet, heritage feel, classy, aesthetically beautiful, personal touches felt and seen everywhere... What more could we ask for?

We had the pleasure of staying at 137 pillars house for our honeymoon and would not stay anywhere else next time we visit Chiang Mai.

Not necessarily the cheapest place but I would say that it is worth the stay if you can afford it or if your looking to treat yourself to a nice stay.

We didn't try the spa so no comment on that.

If we HAD TO criticise the place, we would say that some of the staff didn't speak English too well, but then again, their English is better than our Thai.

Best hotel I have ever stayed in. It's small, about 30 rooms and the staff treat you as more than just a guest. All the staff knew my name from the first day we stayed. The mot impressive thing I noticed was their attention to detail. Everything from the iPod dock already set up and playing soothing music, to the electric aromatherapy diffuser in your room, and so much more. Truly happy with this place, couldn't imagine staying anyere else in Chaing Mai. We are staying in all 5 star resorts on our trip through Tailand, and so far this takes the cake. 137 Pilars has a great location, easy walk to resturaunts and te concierge is very helpful when planning your activities, we used their expertise for everything. I would recommend getting a 2nd floor room, there is more privacy when on the balcony.

We loved our stay at your hotel. The room was over the top! The staff was so nice and friendly. We loved the restaurant recommendation on the river, The Gallery. All in all an excellent stay in Chiang Mai, which is a much nicer city than Bangkok.Wouldn't stay anywhere else!
