“authentic and delicious burmese food... and cheap”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

drove by this place one night and realized how I was craving some Burmese food. The family who runs it are Shan Burmese people and the food is authentic. It's also amazingly cheap and incredibly tasty. Make sure to get their burmese tea, man how I miss that stuff.

“Delicious delicious”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

Love the salads here, especially tamarind leaf and tea leaf. The curries are probably less to western tastes as they're oily but very good and portions aren't that big anyway. Customers are a mix of foreigners (mostly American I think) and locals. Atmosphere is basic but seriously you do not need to worry about hygiene at places like this - 100% fine! including the water they provide you.

“Tea leaf salad FTW”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

I discovered tea leaf salad here and its now pretty much one of my favorite things, ever, ever, ever. If you've never had it before, it's not like a leafy green salad, but rather a crunchy, garlicky, amazing mixture.

If you are squeamish about cleanliness, don't go here. We went with a friend and she almost wanted to leave, whereas we were totally fine... so it depends on your comfort level. It's full of farang, and we've never gotten sick, so I think you're fine. It didn't bother us.

The people who work there speak very little English and the menu is a little tricky to understand. We almost always get the tea leaf salad, bean soup, and one other item. They are often out of many things on the menu.

The food is so cheap that it's always around 100 baht for 2 of us to have 3 dishes plus 2 orders of rice. Definitely a favorite in Chiang Mai.

“Great authentic Burmese and Thai cuisine!”
Reviewed October 23, 2013 via mobile

Words cannot express how much I love this restaurant! The appearance isn't much to take in (it looks like a food stall with a tables behind it), but the menu is extensive and written in Thai and English. The green curry fried rice and tamarind salad is a must! Also, the prices range from 30-35 baht so it's easy to try new things without breaking the bank. A must go if you're in Chiang Mai!

“Not a restaurant, not a library, just the best Burmese food!”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

This is for those of you travellers who are more interested in taste than ambiance. It's really just a sort of glorified sidewalk food stall, but it is home to truly great Burmese food at very low prices -- and perfect for "take away" if you are staying in a hotel or apartment in the Nimman area. Their tea leaf salad is as good as Free Bird's and my favorite new thing is tamarind leaf salad. The menu is in Burmese, Thai and English, so no worries.

The Burmese Library, by the way, is at the other end of the opposite soi, Nimmanhaeminda Soi 13.

NOTE THAT THIS RESTAURANT IS ON NIMMANHAEMINDA SOI 8 (even numbered side of the street -- not soi 13), across the street from the 7-11 with the parking lot.
