I was most pleased with my 9-day stay at the De Rachamanka. The staff could not have been more helpful, the room was clean and well appointed for what it cost and breakfast was very good with a good number of choices, both Thai and western. My Thai sister-in-law joined me for 2 days, my American niece for 3 days and we all agreed that the guest house was well worth what it cost and that the location was great for easy access to many places, both walking and by redcar. The De Rachamanka has only been open for 4 months and the owner and staff, particularly Jo, were super nice and accommodating. Need an extra pillow? It arrived immediately. Hair dryer? Same. I would certainly recommend the hotel/guest house to anyone.
The only thing I did not like is that the room, on the ground floor, has a slight musty smell. After being in the room a short time, the smell was no longer apparent, so it obviously is not a serious problem.

Room Tip: Make sure your taxi/tuktuk driver does not confuse the DeRachamanka with a boutique hotel with a sim...

We stayed here for a week originally whilst in Chiang Mai and ended up extending that by 5 more days.

The guesthouse is lovely. Its clean and very friendly. All the staff are happy to see you and smile whenever you encounter them. The rooms are clean and spacious, with A/C, tv's and a minibar/fridge. The beds though are unlike all the beds I have encountered so far in Thailand. They are soft.

The room we had was on the top floor and at the back. There is a school nearby that can be quite noisy with assembly and band practice but it didn't bother us.

There is no Curfew and if they have to close the gates you are warned and shown how to open them.

You have a choice of typical items for breakfast. Which are all very tasty. Home made yogurt with museli and fresh fruit comes recommended.

The staff as I have said are very friendly and inquire to what your plans are, and offer assistance if they can. The day we hired a moped (from the hotel) to go to the Zoo we were shown on the map how we could include a waterfall and Doi Suthep (a Wat) by driving past the zoo and looping back. All of these were marked on the map for us, including the day and night market and the walking streets. (We were give gentle advise about the best place to buy things we saw on these markets as well so as to avoid paying "tourist prices")
They also helped us organise a Thai cookery course

The location was perfect for us as well. Minutes walk to the wall and several excellent restaurants on the same road.
One of the best places we have stayed so far. I will recommend this to all my friends.

Best guesthouse in Chiang Mai. I stayed here 4 years ago and loved it so much I just had to come back. Very friendly staff helped us plan our trip, from night market to golden triangle to 2 day trekk with elephants & best thai cooking school. Rooms are excellent: a/c, mini bar, very clean and amazing comfy beds! Excellent location, not too busy or noisy. Our 3 days turned into a week! Highly recommended to anyone heading to Chiang Mai. Staff is very knowledgeable!!

Great guesthouse/hotel. We had a deluxe room. It was a little bit smaller as we expected. But still roomy enough to spend a few days at the guesthouse. Room was clean, and tidy.

It is located a few meters from the nicest temple, and the sunday walking street. The old town is only a 5 min walk. The new part of the city is also easy reachable. But the hotel is very quiet at night so a good night sleep is no problem.

Staff was great and helpfull.

Only con I can think of, is the fact that there is another rachamanka hotel. So it is not clear for every taxy/tuktuk driver which one is meant. Even with the (provided) thai card with the name and adress spelled in thai. So make sure you end up at the right one!

de Rachamanka is a good located beautifully renovated Guesthouse in the old part of chiang mai. The guesthouse is not the cheapest around but you get a lot for your money. The stylish double rooms on the first floor offer you a awesomely comfortable big bed with the cleanest sheets I had so far, a big bathroom and everything else you would expect from a good hotel in a western country. The staff is very friendly and helpful especially when it come to booking a hiking trip or bus tickets. I would recommend this guesthouse to good friends.

The De Rachamanka (the former Chiang Mai Garden Guesthouse) is a great guesthouse in central of Chiang Mai. It looks beautiful and has great rooms with shower and WC. It is very clean. The staff is great. They help you wherever they can and make good suggestions completing your trip to this great city. Chiang Mai is a must see and this guesthouse is definitely a good spot!
We can only recommend it!
