I wanted to take some time before completing this review of Big Bike Tours and our experience with Kay (pronounced “Ky”) and Noah, if for no other reason than it’s taken me some time to process all the experiences we had with these guys and how much they managed to pack into our tour.

First, I should frame this by saying that our group (six guys) have been riding together for quite a few years now and we’ve ridden all around the world: Western Europe, US/Canada, South and Latin America, etc. Until now we’ve always done self-guided tours and primarily visited countries to sight see, use their roads/trails and abuse their traffic laws!

The Trip:
Given that this was our first guided tour, we weren’t quite sure what to expect in terms of riding pace, accommodations, food, BOOZE, etc. In the end, we needn’t have worried, Kay and Noah put together an amazing tour for us. Kay picked us up at the airport, took us to our hotels and got everything lined up for the next day’s start. Once they were comfortable with our riding skills, they were very accommodating on pace and happy to open things up. I should point out that the road conditions in Thailand were very good in most instances. Each day they would break things up with a stop for coffee or various sightseeing activities. While we’re primarily a group of Type A guys, who are only interested in going fast, Kay did an amazing job of exposing us to the Thai culture and helping understand the history and people. For instance, if you get a chance and head up to the Golden Triangle, you’ll get a chance to learn about the Thai history around WWII (an interesting museum/video) an d a very unique chance to visit the Hall of Inspiration, which is dedicated to the history of the area and how the Thai Royal Family helped the local people move away from poppy production and back to a more traditional agricultural way of life. It’s a very fascinating bit of history and really an amazing history of the regional Thai people.

The Tour:
The bikes we rode (Suzuki Versys 650) were perfect for the Thai road system, which Kay and Noah made sure were packed with twists and turns. The bikes were very well maintained and we felt safe the entire ride and they inspected them nightly. We usually ride bigger BMWs on our trips but these bikes had plenty of muscle for the roads and were easy to push through the corners and we were not completely worn out by the end of the day, which was a bonus.

As mentioned the roads were in very good condition. The Thai drivers are pretty courteous and Kay tries to gently educate those who aren’t ;-). There are tons of temples to stop and see as well as other sightseeing activities to help beak things up to help you avoid saddle sores.

Each night Kay/Noah arranged great places to stay, ok maybe a miss on one night but we came away with some great stories! You need to realize that this is Thailand and you’re not staying at the Ritz (I bet they'd do their best to hook it up if you wanted that) but the places they’ve picked are very nice, clean and you never feel like it’s substandard.

The food is absolutely off the hook. These guys will expose you to some amazing food and I can’t think of a single instance where they did not order more than enough food for our group, who really likes to eat and wash it down with a few beers. I really can’t say enough about it but this a riding review not a gastronomic critique.

Overall:
If you hire these guys it will become apparent very quickly that they are passionate about their jobs, riding (safety fast!), their families, Thai culture and making sure you have a great experience! It seems like we have something go wrong on every adventure trip we take and part of the fun is trying to figure out how to manage those situations and turn them into a positive, also because they tend to make good stories. I can honestly say that not a single thing went wrong on our trip with Big Bike Tours and we still have fantastic stories!! Who'd ever have thought... Kay and Noah clearly thought through all the details and paid a lot of attention to us throughout the entire journey. We got to see and experience things we normally never would have and I think it was well worth it. I’d highly recommend them and ride with them anytime, anywhere.

My favorite Kay quote: “on Zeee Bikes!”, “On Zeee BIKES!!!”

At the end of Jan, my husband and I (both around 60) went on the 3 day Golden Triangle ride. We were met at the airport by Noah, fitted with jackets and helmets for the next day and delivered to the hotel. We had a great ride, with just 3 bikes (Noah, another rider and us). The 3 days were informative and fun, including some interesting Wats and other tourist sites plus some fantastic scenery. Our accommodations were good, although somewhat basic for North American standards. All of our meals were good and varied.
The next 3 days, we stayed in one place but Noah still took care of us by arranging an English speaking taxi driver to take us to our resort outside of Chiang Mai, to pick us up again in time for our next ride and the opportunity to have him as a guide for some other sightseeing we wanted to do.
Our second trip was the Mai Hong Son loop, with its one section of 1865 curves. For this tour, Kay was generally the leader and Noah manned the support (luggage) vehicle. There were 8 bikes with 3 couples as part of the group. All aspects of the tour were great. I have to commend Noah's planning of our meals. He plans each stop as an opportunity to try different foods and remembers what people like to eat or can't. He's more often in the kitchen or serving the food, instead of sitting down and eating himself. Noah and Kay do their best to ensure that all aspects of your tour goes well.
We had 6 days of seeing Thailand in a manner most tourists aren't able to. We have some incredible memories, thanks to Kay and Noah's planning.

Thank Karen S

Kay (Prounounced "Ky") and Noah are rockstars. Not only are these two very competent and energetic bikers, they are also super-fun to hang with. Our group of 6 have done many rides together around the globe but never with a guide. We weren't sure what to expect. Would it be a granny tour? Would the guides choose good routes? Would the accomodations be decent?

Our expectations were exceeded on all fronts! Kay and Noah were exceptional hosts and showed us sites we never would have seen on our own. They tailored the trip to our preferences. In our case they always made sure we ate well, rested well, rode fast, learned about Thai culture and enjoyed the local nightlife scene. Their easy going attitudes and good sense of humor made them the perfect addition to our group.

All in all our trip was a great adventure, we created incomparable memories and made two new friends.

Where to begin? As a group of 6 American guys, all "type-A" personalities, who have been taking motorcycling trips together all over the world - and never hiring a guide out of principle until this trip... we took the plunge with Kay (pronounced "Chai") and Noah, trusting they would provide us with an epic trip, full of adventure, crazy times, and fast riding. AND THEY DELIVERED, BIG-TIME!!!

Seriously, these guys know what they are doing and put a lot into these trips for the benefit of their customers. Not to say they are pushovers - they mixed it up with our group perfectly all along the way, which is how we like it. Lots of great memories, funny stories, and a blistering pace per our request. They can also go slow, so no pressure - just make sure your group is matched up reasonably well to keep the group tight.

Oh, and they coordinated a 2-day offroad trip for us with his friend Allen at Thai Bike Tours UK, who is equally amazing. We are all left with great memories. Thanks guys!!! All the best for you and your customers who were lucky to find you! -Scott Montague

What an amazing journey through northern Thailand! Six of us college buddies (we are 40 something) went riding with Kay (native east German married a Thai) and Noah (native Thai) and had an absolute blast. They were very accommodating in every way. They were safety focused on the rides. While we went fast, your group can go either fast or slow. The route was just spectacular, beautiful valleys, mountains/hills galore, twisters (5,000 turns), roads were in great shape and they selected wonderful (yet affordable) destinations for us to stay and eat everynight. The tour was tiring (and I am in great shape), but absolutely exhilirating. Kay and Noah make a great team and were totally engaged and ensured we had a fabulous experience. We can't thank them enough! They went way out of there way to make it special for us. thanks Kay and Noah! Highly recommend these guy and the tour of northern Thailand!
