“Excellent Italian Food”
Reviewed November 28, 2012

After a week of Thai food we were ready for something differnt. On a walk I saw this restaurant and reviewed the menu. That evening we gave it a try and were not disappointed. After we were seated, Angelo, the owner and Chef greated us at our table. He made a great wine recommendation. He then presented a cart loaded with the evenings fresh pasta choices, meats and vegetables. With Angelo's help we selected 2 great appetizers and entrees. The atmosphere and food were great.

“Underwhelming...”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

Having read the rave reviews on Tripadvisor, we went one lunchtime expecting fab italian food. Quite disappointed. Both dishes (spaghetti and risotto) were rather tasteless, short on garlic/wine and Parmesan cheese respectively. Maybe because the owner was not in the kitchen perhaps?
For the money, we would have expected better.
Ambience wise not great, as the place was empty and there are no views.

“Exellent food and atmosphere”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

If you are in Chiang Mia and want to experience excellent Italian food and atmosphere, you must go to Piccoa Roma Palace. Angelo, the owner and master chef personally excorts you to your table and goes over the menu . He evens brings out a trolley which has the various pastas and sausages and he explains how they prepare the food. The food was excellent and the service was the same. This was a welcome change from the Thai food which is good but one needs a break from it. I would take the Ping River cruise first which is a 2 minute walk from the the restaurant and then go have a fine meal. It is also located about 3 blocks from the night market which is another must for tourists. Highly recommended.

“Dreadful”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

Oh TA how you failed us. This place ripped us off with high prices and pizza that made me miss my grade school cafeteria pizza in the suburbs of NYC. Frozen bread crust. Ketchup sauce. Crap "cheese". And even though we were the only ones in the place they couldn't be bothered to fully cook the thing and melt the so-called motz. The place is near our hotel and we've walked by it many times and see it is empty. One wonders about the integrity of TA based on this experience.

I'm Grand Officier Maître Restaurateur of the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, whose story begins in 1248 and Senior member of FIC (Italian Chef Federation) with a long list of responsibility tasks. In my long career (58 years) I've never used frozen ingredients and in a traditional Italian restaurant there is no place for Tomato ketchup. The "crap cheese" is "bocconcini of mozzarella", not the ordinary mozzarella used by average restaurateurs but the same I use, raw, to prepare the typical Italian "Caprese".
It is completely fake that my restaurant is always empty. Unfortunately for my workers, it is always almost full (this is the peak season).
Everybody doubting about the quality of food in Piccola Roma Palace is very welcome to come for a test.
