Being Thai residents, some 30+ years ago now and having raised a few children in BKK, very little fazes us when we make a return visit. In the intervening years things have improved. We have witnessed much of what Thailand can throw at a visitor, both the good and the bad and that's what makes Thailand such a fascinating destination. It is user-friendly, fascinating, noisy, dirty, smelly, great food but overall the people make it FUN.

So the Log Home held few surprises. It is conveniently located on a side street, accordingly street noise is minimal. Its land use is compact, the pool is small and the bungalows are set on two sides - whilst the main 2 storey concrete building is on the hypotenuse facing West. This is a pity as the pool is cast in its shadow for the later part of the day. So the mornings are best to catch the rays. In the afternoon do your sight-seeing, not forgetting that, as the day wears on, it gets cooler.

The accommodation is fine. Clean, functional rooms with wall mounted split a/c and cable TV. At this price level the visitor expects functional/working bathrooms and that's about what he gets but do not be surprised if some of the taps don't fully work or the drain is on strike. Pretty standard fare for budget level Thai plumbing and the staff can sort these little things out. However, if you expect palatial bathrooms with full length mirrors, you would have to upwardly revise the budget.

The reception/restaurant/bar area is directly off the street, so the visitor can peruse the menu and review the range of drinks available on the shelves whilst checking out the food on neighbouring tables, very convenient. Food is par for the course, washed down with beer or, in my case, local rum (Sang Som) sloshed over plenty of ice with squeezed lime + soda hits the spot nicely. Trust the local combinations of food & drink, they have been at it for generations, no need for farangs to try and improve a well-proven formula. Forget wine, over-priced for acidic aspirational basic plonk - anyone with a grain of sense recognises it cannot handle highly spiced, sweet, hot, curried Thai food.

The Thai-Chinese owner oversees things from a side desk where the cash is kept. No surprises there! The staff are delightful, as most Thais are. Helpful and smiley - so flash 'em one of yours. Can do no harm.

The only downside, was the tissue thin partition walls between the guestrooms. Noctural sounds from neighbouring rooms could easily disturb the light sleeper. There are solutions however; either take a pill or go for multiples of the drink suggestion above. Should you have noisy or athletic nocturnal habits, out of consideration for the other guests, go elsewhere.

We had booked another hotel were we didn't want to stay at when we saw the hotel. And after walking around in the old town late at night trying to find another hotel we saw this place... The owner showed us the room, and as we walked into this little oasis we loved it right away. We were 3 and the owner let us stay in one room with an extra madras. The staff is wonderful and the service here is extraordinare. We loved every minute and will definitely stay here again....

We spent 5 nights at Log Home during our recent trip to Thailand and had a wonderful stay.

I had been in touch with reservations before we got there and they were very helpful indeed. We were pleased to find that this level of service was continued at check in and throughout our stay. Everybody we dealt with was warm and friendly with a great sense of humour. My husband also enjoyed playing pool with one of the guys there too.

In terms of facilities, it had everything we needed. We had specifically booked a hotel with a pool so that we could catch a few rays but actually found that we didn't have time to use it. The pool area was small but adequate and, unlike many of the pools I've seen at smaller hotels in Chiang Mai, it actually got sun! It looked lovely in the evenings too when it was all lit up.

The bar and restaurant was reasonably priced and the food was very good quality. The tour desk were also very helpful and you never get charged extra for booking through them.

Our room was small but functional and the pine smell was refreshing. It would have been nice to have somewhere to put our suitcases out of the way but we didn't spend too much time in the room anyway. I think that if rooms are going to be so small it would be good to have a traditional style bed which is open underneath so that you can slide your suitcase under as the divan style is a total waste of space.

The shower was nice - good pressure and temperature but the drain did smell a bit from time to time (nothing too bad though).

There was an in-room safe which was smaller than most but with clever packing it still held our passports, two iPads, 4 phones and and SLR so complaints there.

The price wasn't excessive but were perhaps a little high for what you get.

I would recommend this hotel if you are a heavy sleeper but not so good for light sleepers. Soundproofing in log cabins is non-existent and you can hear your neighbours doing...well, everything!

I love the ambiance of Log Home Boutique Hotel! It was nice to stay in a log cabin that had that natural wood scent ...I grew up vacationing at my family's log cabin so it was a pleasant nostolgia. The room was a little cramped and the drains in the bathroom clogged quickly, but overall it was a pleasant experience. The staff were incredibly accomodating and friendly. The location is good, just a short walk from the night bazzaar and yummy street food!

Warning: you can hear your neighbors easily through the walls.

This is fundamentally a good place. Our room was attractive, with pine paneling and flooring and a very comfortable queen bed. Two windows let in adequate light, but bigger windows would have been appreciated. The shower was good -- excellent water pressure and sliding glass doors to keep the rest of the bathroom dry. The pool wasn't big, but it was pleasant (even if, in late December it was cool enough to draw comments even from Swedes). Staff were generally pleasant and helpful (although the ladyboy who showed us to our room when we arrived wasn't the least bit interested in carrying Elizabeth's bag -- no tip for him).

So why am I a little reluctant about the fourt stars? Reason #1: I think it's overpriced. We paid about 1500 baht/night. Admittedly this was at the height of the high season, but it still didn't feel like good value. Reason #2: The wifi was spotty. On more than one occasion my computer showed I was connected but sites loaded with such slowness that I gave up. Reason #3: No furniture in the room except a bed (and some tiny, tiny shelves in the corners). Really, at $50/night you might provide a desk or a table, or an armoire or at least a luggage rack. We didn't enjoy having our luggage spread all over the floor.

Very nice but small pine clad rooms with quality bedding, tv and AC . You couldn't swing a cat around in the tiny bathroom but it works well as the shower is screened. Outside is a tiny swimming pool set in a nice garden area adjoined by the reception area and restaurant, which serves up better than average Thai food. Disappointingly the coffee served up is instant ( great local coffee grown in the hills around here) so bf not an option for me .
Overall this is a fine place to stay, 1300 Thai baht a tad expensive by Chiang Mai standards and I would of rated this property 5/5 ,however you can hear every activity your neighbours make. On one side we had one who seemed to take great pleasure in farting and on the other side a snoring menace , so if you do choose to stay here bring your earplugs.

Very nice hotel close to the cheapest restaurants and bars of chiang Mai.
Nice rooms with air condition, you can ask for a fridge for 50 Bht a day, you have a safe and tv and hot water. Nice beds.
Swimming pool is cold (which is great) but not very clean.
Staff is nice and helpful.
The restaurant serves a very nice food as well !
