This hotel is located in the old town and is surrounded by numerous guest houses and cute little bars. It's location is great in the centre of the old city.

The room was well kept and of a good 4 star standard. Neat well kept with free wifi access and access to English language TV channels. Rooms were serviced promptly and well.

Different herbal teas are brought to your room around 6pm which is a nice touch.

The hotel is very well kept with a wonderful pool area that is an Oasis in the middle of Chiang mai. Neat little waterfall into the pool. Breakfast area spills out to be beside this area which is a nice relaxing place for breakfast.

Speaking of breakfast we found there to be an excellent range of Thai foods , a breakfast egg station.,fruits, salads, cakes and bread varieties. Overall an excellent breakfast.

Staff. They were always helpful but speak slowly as their English is only ok. They moved very quickly when we had any requests.

Tips. Go to mr clean Laundry50 metres to the right down the road for a good cheap laundry service. Cost is 30 to 50 baht kg depending on whether you want express.(ie $1 to $1.75 a kilogram) He does a good job .

Dash restaurant is directly behind the hotel. This has the best Thai food we tried in Chiang Mai and has a nice ambience. Prices are around 100 baht to 150 baht for a main. Only slightly more than he cheaper digs around serving average food. See my review on this restaurant.

Spoon de best restaurant left and down the road 300 metres on the right makes excellent cheap western and Thai food.

Last tip. the Sunday walking markets only open on Sundays (not to be confused with the night markets open daily) are the best markets I have been to in Asia. They are around 2km long and are right and a 800 metre walk down the road from the hotel. Don't miss them. See review.

One final comment. Normally in Southeast Asia hotels will charge a compulsory dinner charge for New Years Eve. Here Kodchasri provided an excellent dinner with buffet and choice of Salmon or steak with additional BBQ stuff for free. Excellent value we thought and a nice touch .

Rating 9/10. We would definitely stay here again.

My friend and I stayed here in Nov 2013 and were both very pleased with this hotel.
The staff were very pleasant and happy to help, lovely breakfasts and our room was spacious with traditional decor.
There's a convenient shop across the street, plenty of tuk tuks come past and well within walking distance of the temples and shops. Definitely recommend the Sunday night market.
The only slight downside is there could be more sunbeds however the pool was never busy as most people are out sightseeing.
So much to do in Chiang Mai, a week was not enough. I would definitely come back to this hotel should I return in the future.

Husband and I stayed there for 4 nights in December, mixed feelings.

Pros: good location, walking distance to the temples, off the main road but close enough that you feel connected to everything. Beautiful, kind of quirky grounds with pool, lounge chairs, cats wearing sweaters and collars lounging around. Esp. Tiger the cute little orange kitten wearing a spiderman sweater! Make sure to check out the hidden bathrooms behind pool area, with the most gorgeous painted ceramic sinks!

Cons: the room we stayed in was musty, smelly and damp, with no air circulation. Everything felt damp, including our clothes. We had already switched rooms once (because they had given us a room with twin beds instead of queen) and we felt awkward asking to switch again. It was totally airless room that felt very dank. I'm pretty sure that not all of the rooms were like that. The staff barely speaks english and the service was not fabulous. Maybe we were a little spoiled regarding service, having just come from Koh Samui where the staff was really attentive.

I think that had we had a different room we would have been much happier, but they really should not be putting anyone in the horrible room we had!

Stayed there several days through Christmas. Honestly the first impression was not very good (neither the staff at the front desk nor the room felt welcoming). But as we stayed there a a bit longer, the feeling got better. After a long day out, it is definitely a nice little place to come back to.

To summarise, this hotel is good for:

1) Its location. It's just a bit of walk from the Chiangmai gate, making it a great spot to start your exploration in the old town or east to the night bazaar / river. All the temples within the old city wall are within walking distance. Or if you prefer to rent a bike or motorbike, there are plenty of shops around leasing these.

2) Room is clean and spacious. It provides most of the amenities a 5-star hotel would provide in the room: fridge, mini-bar, fruits, water, toiletries, Apple-charging dock (old dock though), tea & coffee (that get refilled every day), wifi, TV channels that play English speaking movies, etc.

3) The house keeping is punctual and quick every morning. We went out for breakfast and often when we came back the room was made already.

4) The hotel has a lovely little pool with floating plastic toys. It also has a quiet back garden and a lot of lovely sofas in the adjacent indoor hall where people can relax and read some books, have a chat, etc. It is really tranquil.

For the unwelcoming parts:

1) Staff seems a bit absent minded. Especially those from the reception.

2) The window of our room was unfortunately blocked by a short building outside. It is called "museum" but it is really tiny, looks more like a square short chimney and it is maybe only 30 feet from our window. So no view of the back garden. Let alone enough sun.

3) Amenities used in the room feels a bit old and cheap. The sheets particularly feels rubbery, making you sweat a lot when you sleep. We spotted spots barely hidden under the coverlet. There are loose threads on the towel. They feel odd and old on your body.

4) While the room feels like a summer room in Thailand (non-carpeted floor, wooden bed/window frames, etc), the writing table looks like one that Jane Austen would have written on, with a retro baby blue metal trash can on its right. Both look like something you could pick up from the Saturday market in, say, Nottinghill. These do not affect the comfort of staying in this hotel. But they just don't fit into the room too much.

To conclude, the hotel is comfy and OK. I think if we had not been paying the crazy Christmas rate we would have felt better, value-wise...

Room Tip: Hotel serves curry, fried veggies and meat with rice or noodles for breakfast. They do provide bread...

This hotel is in the heart of the old city, within walking distance to several shops, markets and restaurants. The hotel itself is an upscale resort, truly an oasis from the busy city. The staff were friendly and helped us organize a driver for the local sites. The breakfast was decent, not wonderful but there were many different options. The weather was cool while we were there so we didn't spend as much time at the pool as I hoped to, but the pool was beautiful. Our room was large and at the end of a hallway on the second floor so it was quiet. The fitness center was somewhat lacking, with a broken elliptical and no weights but the treadmill worked. One tip, if you need to do laundry, go outside the hotel across the street for 40 baht per kilo. They do a great job and it is much cheaper than the hotel's service. All in all, a great stay and wish we could have stayed longer!

We stayed for 4 nights over New Years. Our room was huge. The bed comfy albeit a bit hard. Staff is friendly and there is ton of staff! Breakfast which was included was amazing. The place is a bit quirky. Location is great - on a quiet street but within walking distance of the Wats and about 25 minute walk to the night market. All in all a good stay. Oh and the best part was the 7 cats that live there, including Tiger the kitten!

Just returned from staying at Kodchasri Thani after ten days there with our family of ten including 4 granddaughters aged 17-22. We didn't think we would find a hotel to suit us all with such a wide age range but this was perfect. We had beautiful big rooms, spotlessly clean and great breakfasts (with good variety and quality food) beside the pool and lush gardens. Great position in old town to walk anywhere. We were very impressed with the cheerful friendly staff who looked after us so well and the Manager who gave us great personal service - many thanks. Would love to return to Chiengmai and stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms on 3rd floor at back very quiet, sunny.
