“Beautiful hotel, in a fabulous location, love it!”
Reviewed November 24, 2013

I was very pleasantly surprised by this lovely hotel. The location is amazing, right in the old town, and it's quiet and peaceful inside with spacious rooms and interior courtyards, fountains and a pool, so very calm. The staff were all delightful, charming and friendly and I loved the breakfast: plenty of good quality food was available and eggs were cooked to order. All the decor is well chosen in traditional style. I would love to stay here again.

Once you enter the hotel, the ambiance made you feel relax and set you away from the city life.
15-20mins drive from the airport.

Room are spacious, clean. Wifi signal is strong in room and available within the hotel. Staff are helpful, breakfast spread consists of local thai & western food.

Set in old city of Chiang Mai, it's near to the Saturday walking street.
There are many local markets to explore along the lanes nearby and shops, restaurants just outside the city gate.

Travelling with children: Deluxe room we stayed in has fixed shower head and the bed maybe a little to high for children to climb up. Swimming pool with minimum height of 0.5m.

Room Tip: we stayed in deluxe room facing the courtyard.

I recently stayed 4 nights. After the first few hours I thought it was going to be a hard few nights as the room we were in had a bad smell that only became apparent when we went to bed and the air freshener masking the smell had left the room. There was obviously something wrong that made it impossible to sleep in that room. I went to the front desk at 9.30pm to ask for another room. The desk attendant told me the hotel was fully booked and she didn't have any place else to put us. Seeing my distress she agreed to visit the room and was in full agreement that we could not stay there. After a few phone calls she was able to put us in another room where we spent the remainder of our stay. Once we moved everything was perfect. Tea is brought to the room each night which was a nice little treat and the fruit bowl always had fresh fruit delivered each day, a nice touch. A heart felt thanks to the excellent staff that rescued our holiday experience.

Kodchasri Thani almost resembles a white chapel in amongst the gritty authenticity of the old city. Here's the breakdown: lovely staff, big comfortable rooms, soft pillows, good breakfast, great cocktails and band by the pool (which is a very clean and nice to refresh oneself in) and... cute cats! I realise the cats aren't a draw card for everyone but my mother and I loved them. See you next year Kodchasri!

We stayed in a twin room and my mother found the beds VERY hard (still haven't heard the end of it a week later). This may only be an issue for the room we had, not sure.
The pool was lovely, staff weren't as forthcoming as other Thai hotels we have stayed at... Maybe a language barrier but still friendly smiles. Noisy Ac in the room but over all very clean and good value for money.

the fake orchids in the garden made us chuckle :) the real ones they had were lovely enough on their own.

I will cut to the chase and give the lowdowns on my experience.

The Ravings
Service- Generally prompt and efficient. I called room service for a bucket of ice. Candidly, the staff said,"We charge for it to b sent to your room but if u go to the restaurant to get it yourself, it's free."

Cleanliness/Layout- Impeccable. Landscaping was great with tons of greenery and orchids. Personal favorite was d open-air spacious chill out/lounge area, complete with nest-like rattan couches, vibrant cushions n reading material. It was so huge, Jr spent an enjoyable half hr or so there, frisking around. Good thing there was hardly any other guests.

Food- Only had breakfast here. Without any expectation, it's decent enough. But after 2 days of it, we were wondering if we should head out to look for other alternatives, given d huge array of choices CM has to offer.

The Rantings
- we stopped by the hotel and requested to have our shopping bags deposited at d reception before heading off for dinner. D staff we approached looked around casually n replied curtly and pokerfaced ,"There is no where for your stuff". N he went on with his chores, leaving us standing there, slighted stumped. (ps. Not a word of apology, for dat matter)

- ants! Yes, there was probably an ant nest somewhere in d rm. Jr's cough syrup n d nightly complimentary pastries was crawling w ants when we returned. (ps. I made it a point to rinse d brim, cup n outside of the bottle after each feed)

- the temperemental shower in the bathroom. It "blows" hot n cold without reason (ie.without u even touching it!) Twice during our stay there of 4 nites, d Mister howled out in midst of shower. The piping for hot water heats up dangerously n given d space in d shower cubicle, he inevitably "scalded" himself. Not a big deal, but watch it for kids with curious fingers.

- Slight hiccup on checking out. Unexpectedly, they charged us for a few things.
1. Bottled drinking water fr d mini bar, which we swore we didn't touch.
2. A hand towel was stained by some fruit juices. The staff claimed that it can't b removed n we had to pay for it?!! Not to mention the towel was already yellowed w use in d first place.
3. A drinking glass. Accidentally hit it against d faucet while washing n it chipped badly. Well, good thing we were not charged for d clogged toilet bowl ie. for using too much toilet paper?

Having a flight to catch, we gave up explaining, paid up n left. Overall, it was a pleasant enough. But the glitch upon checking out has definitely steered us away from future stays.

Beautiful decoration of the hotel with eye for details. Lovely spacious room with large bathroom. I especially loved the well maintained garden with multiple level swimming pool. Umbrellas available for a dry transfer in raining season. Large breakfast buffet with more than enough to choose from. Very pleasant en friendly personnel who recognized us when we came in. Bicycles free to hire. We felt royal in this luxurous hotel and the price was a bit more than we planned to spend, but compared to the price/quality of midrange hotels around, it was more than worth it!
Only the temperature of the shower was difficult to tune and there was just one chair in the room. But hey, if that's all...
