This is a famous gate of old square city.
In this gate's open space,
In the daytime, some red mini buses and tuktuks were waiting their customers.
On the Saturday night, people played sepak takraw games with much audience.
On the Sunday evening, many shops opened by the extension of the Sunday market.

It cost us 20 Bath per person to get from the Bus station to Tha Phae Gate.
The Tha Phae Gate happens to look like the busiest /happening part that separates the Old City of Chiang Mai from the newer part.
There are always something to see; like the street vendors and the kids on their bikes.
There are many accommodations, good restaurants are massages located around this area.

To me, Tha Phae Gate is the heart of the city. You can find all you want at the surroundings. Cheap accommodation, good food, massage... Meet friends and book buses or tuk tuks to take you to places! Awesome!

Seems like there's usually some action here-- tourists, maybe vendors, maybe street performers, maybe local kids doing stunts on bikes. It can be a good starting or ending point for a walk on the walking street market

This isn't so much an attraction in and of itself as it is a plaza or gathering space. Kids practice bike tricks on the pavement and backpackers use the space as a meeting point. This is the sort of "Times Square" of the city on New Year's Eve, Songkran, and other holidays.
