“Excellent hotel, great value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2014

We stayed for 4 nights in February and by pure chance the flower festival was happening over that weekend. The festival made a usually quite part of the old city actually very lively. The location of the hotel is quite so if you want to relax its great. Taxi's and the shuttle can take you anywhere else. The staff were all wonderful, so generous and polite. They really enjoy their jobs and they do it so well, credit to Nian for his efforts every day. Rooms were large and clean. Decor was very nice, the beds were slightly harder than my preference but i slept like a baby regardless. The pool area is beautiful, very nice restaurant too. This hotel is a real gem and worth every cent.

I stayed there 3 nights beginng of Feb. 2014. Being at the west side of Old Town it was within walking distance to a lot of restaurants, the walking street , the Sunday market. Those like me who like to walk can even walk to teh night bazaar. Breakfast was just average but the room was lovely. Pool is small , but has a nice atmosphere to chill a bit after a long walk. They also rent bicylcles to explore old town ,but I preferred to walk.

This small resort is located just inside the west city gate. The entrance is on the main road. Our room, 119, was near the back and very quiet. We had a small balcony that faced the pool. We paid 90 baht for the airport pickup in the clean van. Worth it to avoid being accosted by taxi drivers at the exit! The driver waited at the domestic exit even though we came international, but we just had to walk the length of the terminal to find him at the domestic side. Everyone was very friendly, from checkin to drivers and restaurant staff to security.

The room had a bathtub and separate shower (water temp did fluctuate but wasn't a real problem), 4 free water bottles a day, and a lovely breakfast buffet with breads, fruit, omelettes made to order, fried rice, noodles, and pancakes. More than enough to start the day. We had an early flight out before the restaurant opened so the staff made us breakfast bags (sandwich, fruit, water, juice and breads) to go since we would miss the buffet. Wifi was free although a bit slow at times. Turndown service was good. If you have laundry to do, they will arrange it and it's really inexpensive.

You can easily walk to all the wats inside the city walls (10 minutes to Chedi Luang). If you want to. visit the night market, make a reservation by 5pm for their free shuttle. Take a tuktuk back for 100 baht. If you are here on the weekend, there is a Saturday night market and a Sunday night market (6-11pm) on a street they close for this purpose. Hundreds of little stalls set up along the roadside. I thought the Sunday night market was the best, with a broad selection of handicrafts and the usual souvenirs. Tons of people, though, so be prepared. You can easily walk there and back at night.

We had the hotel make us a reservation for a private guide and driver to go up to Doi Suthep and the Hmong hill village. Ver reasonably priced a well worth it for 5 hours. We had them drop us at Nimmanheiman Rd for gallery shopping afterwards (there's a Wawee Coffee shop like a Starbucks with clean bathrooms in back) near Soi 4. Disappointed with the shopping here as the street lacked much charm. We walked back to the hotel from here, about two miles.

Overall, we were very pleased with this choice and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for one in the back if you want quiet.

Very nice boutique hotel, full of charm and traditionnally built. Staff is extremely friendly and helful. Not very far from the main market (for evenings) : 5 min by TucTuc. But some improvements could be done: our room was extremely noisy (on the street) which is the reason why i quoted "average" instead of good. Swimming pool cold : a pity as you only dream to go in after a day of excursion.

Room Tip: Try not to be far from street.

This is not a perfect resort. The details of The Rim is not as immaculate as Dhara Dehvi or 137 Pillars. But I like the cozy atmosphere in Rim. I fell from the motorbike when riding in Nimman without helmet at the speed of 40 Kilo. Luckily, my head didn't hit the ground. As a result, I have to go to the hospital everyday to clean the wound. The hospital is just 8 minutes walk from Rim. And I have to forget about all my medicated plan such as jungle flight, elephant riding as well as conquering of Pai, a northern county with less tourists. Lying on the deck chair on the balcony and watching the swimming pool in the middle, I just learn to appreciate that living itself is a pleasure, especially with my family around me. Again, I celebrated Spring Festival with my parents, nephew and wife.
Reception is very friendly and helpful.
Anyway, be cautious to riding a motorbike, especially when u don't do it frequently at home.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 days in January. Here are some thoughts:

PROS
- friendly service, helpful staff
- delicious coffee and breakfast buffet (noodles, fried rice, salad, cereals, French toast or pancakes and a variety of juices laid out. Made to order eggs, bacon, sausage, rosti, rice or noodle dishes).
- free wifi (a bit slow though)
- cheap laundry service next door, 50baht/kg
- can rent a bike from the hotel to explore for 50 baht/day
- free shuttle to night market daily at 7pm

CONS
- very dark room! The room is decorated in traditional Lanna style with dark wood, dark red walls, etc. this could be a matter of personal preference though.
- unreliable hot water for shower and bath tub (very frustrating during chilly Chiang Mai mornings where temperature is about 11C)
- room service not available after 9:45pm
- aside from 2-3 adjacent restaurants (where servers do not speak any English), not many places to eat within walking distance in the evening
- very few conveniently located outlets in the room to charge electronic devices
- creaky bed frame! Mattress itself was firm and comfortable, but bed creaks with every movement

All in all, the hotel is nice but not my cup of tea. I appreciated the friendly service and loved the breakfast buffet! However, If I could do it again, I would opt to stay in the east side of the city where there are more options for late night dining and is overall more central to the city center. Most importantly, I hope that the hotel can fix its issue of unreliable hot water.

This little hotel on the edge of the old city, The pool/lounge area is a perfect break for the craziness, particularly with the carefully curated garden. While overall charming, there were some false notes (the pool was cold, the shower ran hot/cold, the bed a little hard, and some of rooms felt a little warn). We walked by many hotels on our stay, and none made us say "we should have stayed there). We'd happily stay at the Rim again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street. There can be some noise.
