I would highly recommend this place.
Positives: The place is in a great location; the room was basic but offered everything we needed; the place was spotless, it was great value for money; there was yummy breakfast which was served when it was convenient for us; and the service was great. My friend and I felt very welcomed, especially when keith's wife Lati helped with recommending places to visit and with booking. we were even invited to join in for lunch .. also, as there was only 5 other rooms, it was easy to meet and become friends with the other people staying there.

Sorry for forgetting to give back the key to room 6. i sent it by mail at the airport so i hope you received it back in november

The positives: Finlays cottage is in a great location, the staff are very welcoming, friendly, relaxed and helpful. Rooms are adequate and clean. breakfast is good.

The negatives: the Windows have no glass, just fly screens & shutters (which don't really seal shut) so there is nothing to dim the outside noise. if you are a light sleeper this will be a prob as there are dogs nearby that bark constantly and you will hear street noise at night. the house is small so once the first person is awake..the rest of the house will be awake because noise travels through the house...you can hear every conversation & people stomping around on the wood. also the price is higher than other guest houses in the area

If your not looking for a five star experience, and you're happy to be in a small home in the back streets with no real mod cons this is the place for you. It is clean and really well situated. Breakfast is good and the I really enjoyed the location. You can open the wooden window shutter and the light streams across your bed as you listen to the neighbourhood rooster and chooks. Best asset in the place is undoubtedly Keith. He is an absolute brick. Polite, really helpful and unobtrusive. He knows the town as well as anyone and that added greatly to our experience. Loved the place.

Room Tip: I preferred to be upstairs but its a preference thing.

We stayed here during a 2 week trip to Thailand. It was excellent value for money, with breakfast included in the price. Not a very far walk at all to the centre of the city, with many restaurants and wats nearby. Our room was basic but exactly what we needed, and the cleanliness of it, and the shower area was excellent. Would definitely recommend! The couple running it are very helpful too!!

Finlay's Cottage really is a home from home. Located a few minutes walk from the main city gate, it is in a great location to access all parts of Chiang Mai. Keith and Ratchi were there to meet us on arrival and gave us lots of helpful hints and tips during our stay. Spotlessly clean rooms and toilet facilities and the best internet connection we had in Thailand. Ratchi is a great help with booking trips and always greets you with a smile - also whips up a mean breakfast! Keith is a familiar voice from home being a British ex-pat and also gives great advice on local restaurants, bars and places of interest. Will definitely be back next time we visit Chiang Mai.

Cosy, quiet and welcoming little spot away from the hustle and bustle of Chiang Mai, yet close enough to be in walking distance to the main temples and attractions. WiFi works well in the rooms and breakfast was great with either a choice of baon and eggs or muesli.
The owners were on hand to give advice about the various tours in the area and were very helpful when we were agonising over which trek option to go with!
Would definately come back!
