If it hit go to night safari a few trains to take a few night shows. Very very excitable shows. Don’t miss the Night Predators Show on your way out. Best show I’ve every seen surprises from everywhere. It was b950 booked from hotel recommendation as pick up/ drop off from your hotel. Or asked to get dropped at night bazaar.
I read the reviews on this site and wonder where some of the people get there impressions from. This zoo is not "great", "impressive", or "fantastic" by any means.
So many of the exhibits are closed.
The poor penguins deserve much better conditions to live in. The water is horrible and it's hot in the environment.
One of the tigers would cry out multiple times every 5 minutes or so probably calling out for companionship.
The aquarium is not bad but a lot of the tanks have not been cleaned in a long time. Quite a few of the tanks are empty.
The bird enclosure is a total waste of time. I spent almost 30 minutes in there and with the exception of seeing some common geese and a few blue pidgeons I could find nothing else after walking all over with my head looking up.
The monorail has not run in years. Trees have grown across the rail and that didn't happen overnight. One of the zoo personnel said it was closed for repair. That was a pathetic statement.
Overall I feel sorry for the animals and the people who pay money to see this. The place needs a serious influx of money or move the animals out and make it a museum of how not to run a zoo.
If feeding a giraffe or a hippo is your thing...then you will be happy but otherwise if you have any compassion.....you will cry for the animals here.
This was our 1st time to visit the zoo and us wanting to see the Panda made it more special. The zoo was clean and tidy, very big great for walkers, there is also lots of nice bus stops for pick up and drop offs to each enclosure. This was great as it was a very hot day.
Huge empty zoo.
Already 10 years past since opening day,Zoo was empty and looks very old.....
On my Opinion ,Animals don’t really felt happy there,Price was too high for the contain much of local hotels, Night Safari is cheaper, offering more good service at lower price .
Coming from NYC, we have several zoos to visit. I was interested how the zoos of Thailand measure up. I previously visit the Dusit Zoo in Bangkok and enjoyed the different.animals (This zoo is now closed for renovation).
Chiang Mai zoo had some pretty cool exhibits, one being able to feed the giraffes, another feeding a leopard raw meat. They also have a panda exhibit that is extra but no worth it. The poor thing is sitting sadly (if you are even able to see him).
The zoo is very hilly so be prepared to hike the hills or ride the train. I am just fine to walk and enjoyed the exercise.
Overall I enjoyed the zoo, not a must see, but a decent place to visit.
