Beats any zoos in Australia. Came up close and got to feed elephants, giraffes and leopards. Truly amazing experience. Don't think you can really beat that.

I don't see why some people are complaining about the entry fee and subsequent costs to see some specific exhibits. If you're earning euro, us or au dollars 1:30 currency conversion honestly. It costs like what $50 for melbourne zoo, that's 1500BHT just to get in the zoo. Considering feeding the animals costs only 20bht here, in western zoos you rarely get the opportunity to even do so. If you want to complain about the 120bht it costs to get on the bus, well then walk. I don't remember there even being a bus at melbourne zoo.

Visited today, 5th March 2013 and there was a lot of construction and expansion work going on. It's the middle of a city so you have to understand there is only oh so much room before you start knocking down peoples houses to make room for a lion enclosure. Anybody who's been to melbourne vs werribee zoo will understand. When you're in the middle of nowhere like werribee zoo fine give animals all the space they want - but honestly werribee zoo sucked as the animals were soooooo far away you needed eagle vision to even see them.

It's worth a visit definitely, I think a lot of people saying don't visit the zoo cause the animals have no space have to consider where the money comes from that pays for all this. It's a commercially operated so the less visitors the less money there is for the animals and any chance of expansion or renovations. Same if it was government run, you can't put all your money in running a zoo as that'll mean taking money away from hospitals and education. If you're visited thailand you've got to be blind to not work out that the conditions the animals live in are a lot better than some of the people who actually live there.

Chiang Mai Zoo, located 15 minutes away from the city center feels like another universe.
For five hours one escapes the noise, concrete and traffic that are found in any large city -especially a tourist city like Chiang Mai. Suddenly, on has an impulse to to take a gulp of fresh air knowing that ones' lung will not be working hard to process the pollution found in Chiang Mai. This is particularly true now in the midst of the so called,"burning season " in Chiang Mai.
I returned at the end of the day pleasantly refreshed with clean air in my lungs and a day of good exercise walking over hill and dale.
The Zoo. There was a a good variety of animals and some birds. The real issue was the extremely small lack of space each animal had to live in. It made me sad to see animals live in such deplorable conditions.

World class zoo. Easy to get around. Hop on hop off the bus or mono rail. Panda house is a real treat. Great for young and young at heart. Must see.

Great value for money, animals are all in large enclosures and you can feed most of the animals even the hippos for a mere 10 baht. Allow at least half a day, ideally you do need a full day to explore. You are able to take your car, although the zoo does have a hop on hop off bus and monorail. Don't forget your camera!
