Description: Our beautiful location is on the North side of the moat that surrounds the quaint "old city" of Chiang Mai. It is a perfect place to sit, enjoy the breeze, sunlight and people watching on the main road. The interior is attractive, colorful and bright with our student's art work and long share tables to encourage customers to sit together and make new friends or private tables and a small sofa in the kids corner where there are plenty of books, toys and art supplies to keep the kids happy while parents enjoy their healthy vegetarian or vegan western or local style breakfast, lunch, smoothies or coffee and dessert. We serve many Burmese and ethnic foods that you can't get anywhere else so it is fun to try something new! We also have a fun and funky little Pre-Loved Charity Shop in the cafe where you can not only donate your old clothing, household items, books and more but purchase goods and support our charity at the same time. We have loads of English language novels, travel guides, hats, shoes, scarves, jewelry, men's and women's clothing and more. We also sell organic spirulina, triphala and natural skin care products from local vendors. Please come and check us out today! You can park cars, motorbikes and bicycles along the side of the building.

“Extremely fresh, healthy and phenomenally delicious food.”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Everything from the owner to the food is absolutely amazing! The salads here are phenomenal.... Coming from a person who doesn't like salads. They also have great fruit; perfectly ripe. The best part is that the cafe supports a social enterprise to educate individuals that may not have received an education otherwise. Come here and eat! Now!

“Amazing Shan Cusine (vegetarian!) with an equally amazing mission.”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

The Freebird Cafe is fantastic. We had the Buffett here which was great -- classic Shan salads minus the oil. The buffet also included perfectly ripe fruit (watermelon, mango, papaya, pineapple, dragon fruit). Fresh, crisp ingredients and proceeds support a wonderful cause. Check out the Thai Freedom cause for more information. Lisa (director) was wonderful.

“Excellent and Authentic Vegetarian Shan Food”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

We dined on a number of delicious salads, rice with pumpkin curry, and perfectly ripe fruit for dessert. Everything was exquisite, the service impeccable, and the owner incredibly friendly. If you're looking for healthy, authentic food at a good price, come to Free Bird!

“For a social cause”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

I had been in Chaing mai to Mae hon song trip during my honemoon. I visited this cafe for the burmese refugees. The food, ambience is serine and you will fall in love with the place. The smoothies are equally good. I had a long chat with a couple there as they helped us to plan our trip to Chaing Rai - Golden triangle - Pai - Mae hong son and visit a Burmese clan called Ban Yapa on the highway. It turned out to be wonderful. I had english breakfast and it was treat for my wife who is pure vegetarian. Spend sometime learning with the Shan cultre and their long struggle in Thailand.
