Description: Our beautiful location is on the North side of the moat that surrounds the quaint "old city" of Chiang Mai. It is a perfect place to sit, enjoy the breeze, sunlight and people watching on the main road. The interior is attractive, colorful and bright with our student's art work and long share tables to encourage customers to sit together and make new friends or private tables and a small sofa in the kids corner where there are plenty of books, toys and art supplies to keep the kids happy while parents enjoy their healthy vegetarian or vegan western or local style breakfast, lunch, smoothies or coffee and dessert. We serve many Burmese and ethnic foods that you can't get anywhere else so it is fun to try something new! We also have a fun and funky little Pre-Loved Charity Shop in the cafe where you can not only donate your old clothing, household items, books and more but purchase goods and support our charity at the same time. We have loads of English language novels, travel guides, hats, shoes, scarves, jewelry, men's and women's clothing and more. We also sell organic spirulina, triphala and natural skin care products from local vendors. Please come and check us out today! You can park cars, motorbikes and bicycles along the side of the building.

“Nice place to eat, drink and do something good”
Reviewed January 25, 2013 via mobile

The idea is to help refugees from Birma, which we really like. The staff was very friendly, maybe a little shy. We had a nice breakfast and very tasteful smoothies and a fresh coconut with cocoa. There's also a charity second hand shop.

“Wonderful Experience”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

A friend of ours reccomended Free Bird Cafe and we kept missing out on it while we were in town. We finally made it there and we can't wait to return! The staff was friendly and the food was great. We love that all of the money goes to support a learning centre for indigenous peoples and Burmese refugees. We will be back in a few days to try more food and support a great cause!!

“Great opportunity to try something a bit different!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Being a confirmed omnivore but a fan of Shan fare I was in two minds about trying this Shan vegetarian restaurant in Chiang Mai but am now very glad I did and will certainly be returning. Great Shan, Thai and Western options - well prepared, first class ingredients, friendly service and very reasonable prices.

On top of all that it's in a very good cause! Well worth checking out and I can personally recommend their ginger, peanut and pumpkin curry! 1st class and thanks!

“Wish I could take this home with me...”

Wow. What an incredible establishment. Now in a new building that is bright, airy, and calming. First off, the food is DELICIOUS. I especially recommend the smoothies and pumpkin curry! The staff is friendly, helpful, and excited to talk about their coffee shop, which raises money to teach English, Thai, Shan, and art classes to refugees in Chiang Mai. Definitely should make this a must-visit on your Chiang Mai to do list.
