Description: Our beautiful location is on the North side of the moat that surrounds the quaint "old city" of Chiang Mai. It is a perfect place to sit, enjoy the breeze, sunlight and people watching on the main road. The interior is attractive, colorful and bright with our student's art work and long share tables to encourage customers to sit together and make new friends or private tables and a small sofa in the kids corner where there are plenty of books, toys and art supplies to keep the kids happy while parents enjoy their healthy vegetarian or vegan western or local style breakfast, lunch, smoothies or coffee and dessert. We serve many Burmese and ethnic foods that you can't get anywhere else so it is fun to try something new! We also have a fun and funky little Pre-Loved Charity Shop in the cafe where you can not only donate your old clothing, household items, books and more but purchase goods and support our charity at the same time. We have loads of English language novels, travel guides, hats, shoes, scarves, jewelry, men's and women's clothing and more. We also sell organic spirulina, triphala and natural skin care products from local vendors. Please come and check us out today! You can park cars, motorbikes and bicycles along the side of the building.

“A wonderful day!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2012

Monday 8 of October, I went to the Free bird cafe with my friends at 28 Santiluk Road Santitam in Chiang Mai. We all enjoyed our lunch at the sweet outdoor garden dining area. The food was lovely and fresh. I had the toast bread with vegetables and a couple of fruits and cookie too, which was so delicious. The food was tasty. My friends enjoyed their fresh and colorful meals. They have food from Burma, Thailand and International food and there is also a second hand shop on the property that was fun to see. Good place to meet and relax and they have free Wi-Fi too. The people who work there, is very friendly with us. They are also a language and art community center for hill tribe and refugee families in northern Thailand. It is very inspiring to learn about the help this agency is providing to children. We all want to come back again!

“Free Bird Cafe is Awesome !!”

Free Bird Cafe
Free bird cafe is very good place to spend time to relax. I really enjoyed the food. The Sandwiches and Shan food are brilliant. They are fast serving and it doesn't take a lot of time. The price was cheap and the money also goes to help Burmese refugees. The weather was hot, but the ambience was perfect because you can sit under a tree and have a fantastic fruit juice as well.
Everyone was friendly, I also like to bought stuffs in the old second hand shop there, because the price was cheap and I liked ancient rings, bangles and old clothes. For me I think the space is a bit small, so it could be larger. Anyway, thanks for a vegetarian food and flash coconut drink.

“Delicious food, good service, good cause”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2012

I first visited Free Bird Cafe because I was attracted to its mission of supporting Thai Freedom House, which gives assistance to Burmese refugees.

The location is lovely, with tables and lounge chairs set up in a grassy courtyard. It's quiet and peaceful, great for working or just relaxing for awhile. The food is quite good; everything tastes fresh and has a nice flavor. And the smoothies are excellent, best I have had in Chiang Mai.

The servers are friendly, attentive, and accommodating, rounding out a quality experience.

“Tasty food and good cause”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2012 via mobile

I visited today, 8th sept. I had noodles in curry sauce (60 baht) and banana, peanut butter and chocolate smoothie (80 baht). Food tasted fine and good value considering money goes to charity.

It is outside but with cover for rain. Lots of ants everywhere but this goes with the garden environment.

There is a shop with donated items, books to read and free wi fi. Everything is vegetarian. (not sure why someone said there's the best burgers in town - there's no meat in sight)

Overall a good place to chill out, have a smoothie or coffee, quick bite to eat and catch up emails or read a book. Would recommend.
