Wonderful hospitality in a relaxing setting

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jan 14, 2013
Andy handled my reservation quickly and helpfully, and he was also there to give the taxi driver telephone directions and to check me in at 2315 after the late arrival of my train. Andy took me to my room, and was very courteous in explaining the features and facilities.

Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the river was a delight, and a beautiful respite from the bustle of this colourful city. Likewise, it was enjoyable to sample local cuisine at lunch or dinner in the same spot.

Yes, do not expect the Ritz. Club One Seven does not pretend to be a 5-star property. Instead, be delighted by the atmospheric teak buildings, and the charming rooms. My room had wonderful antique furnishings, including a very comfortable 4-poster bed, plus the luxury of a private balcony overlooking the river.

Good attention was given to maintenance, as I saw two different maintenance teams repairing gym and spa equipment promptly.

I give special mention to the manager, Tang, who made a point of talking with each of his guests each day, such was the level of his personalised service. He was very welcoming, and very helpful in discussing sightseeing tours, taxi options, airport transfers, and indeed any aspect of the city and of his resort. He even gave me a lift into town at the end of one of his day's duties.

Tang's welcoming and outgoing personality made me feel very welcome and very happy here, in what came to feel like a 2nd home. Tang's service orientation and attitude are indeed 5-star.

Likewise, each of his staff was warm and courteous at all times.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the river costs only a little more, but is worth it for the additional calm...

We booked into this hotel many months before and were looking forward to the stay. On arrival we were shown our 'top room', which was very disappointing and nothing like the pictures on the website. It smelt of urine, and the decore was very old and tired. The bathroom was a good size, but only had a small sink and no shelves to put toiletries. The balcony was full of rusted furniture. The rest of the hotel was clearly of a poor standard. We immediately went on-line and booked a room in a five star hotel for a lower rate than Club One Seven was wanting to charge us, and we left immediately.

Thank you for your review. Since you visited us, we are under new management. All of the problems that you mentioned in your comment have been addressed and we have spent a lot of time and money upgrading our facilities. We sincerely apologize for your disappointment at that time. If you return to Chiang Mai we would love for you to give us a second chance.

We stayed two nights midweek in early Jan '13. We stayed in room 105, which had a suite size and comfortable bed. It has no outlook, but is metres from the pool/gym and river front breakfast/bar area. While the club is a little tired, we can only agree with other reviewers, the service from all staff members and the manager Tang was exceptional and we would not have any hesitation in staying again.

We learned about this property while staying in Bangkok when we noticed an advertisement in "Out in Thailand". It was exactly what we were imagining for our trip to Chiang Mai. Traditional old Lana style buildings, surrounded by nice gardens and the the Ping river. Our room had A/C and was spacious, with a patio facing the river.
Staff was super nice, friendly, caring and always helpful.

Our days in Chiang Mai could not have started nicer, than with a nice breakfast (complimentary) with river view on the patio.

Gym, sauna, steam-room and a pool are available and after 6 PM, local boys drop by for some "relaxation".

The hotel offers free wifi,

I would recommend this Club One Seven to anyone who is looking for a place with character and friendly service. If you are looking for Hilton or Hyatt standard, this property might not be the perfect fit.

I arrived in Chiang Mai on an early flight (8am) and as the taxi driver at the airport did not understand where club one seven was located, I phoned the guest house and they gave him directions and I was there in a jiffy. Tang, the manager warmly greeted me with an already completed registration form with all my details filled in, so all I had to do was sign the form.

Arriving so early I did not expect my room to be ready and intended to just drop my bags and go out and find some breakfast. However, the charming Tang said my room was available and inquired if I had had breakfast yet. He then took me to my room and explained a little about the history of this lovely 100 year old teak Lana style house, then showed my round the rest of the property and said I was welcome to enjoy a complimentary breakfast on the veranda overlooking the river.

This has to be the best welcome I have ever experienced in any hotel or guest house anywhere in the world at any price level - thank you Tang!

Don't come expecting international 5 star hotel standards, this is a quaint and quirky old teak building with lots of atmosphere and old world charm. The entire property is quite, secluded, well maintained and a total delight. I did not use the spa or sauna facilities so can not comment on them. The rooms in the main teak house all seem to be quite small but are well furnished and have everything you need together with a comfortable four poster bed and nice clean bathroom and shower.

One final example of the care that the management take: I left my phone charger in the room on check out. With out any prompting, Tang arranged for it to be forwarded to me at my next destination - I had not even realised I had left it!

For the price paid I think Club One Seven offers great value for money and truly exceptional customer service!

Stayed 3 nights here in one of the rooms in an old teak house. Wonderful character. Staff are friendly, riverside bar/eating area is lovely. Pleasant gardens around pool area. Air-con in the gym. Be aware that most of the rooms are quite tiny, and there is not much within walking distance, but I would happily stay here again. The shape of the pool will bring a smile to your face.

Room tip: Ideal if you enjoy character accommodation with a nice garden.
