Sakorn Residence & Hotel
Ranked #48 of 403 Hotels in Chiang Mai
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed March 14, 2013

We spent 6 nights at the Sakorn Residence, 3 nights before Christmas and 3 nights after Christmas. (road trip on the Mae Hong Song between stays.) It was a wonderful, friendly staff, the rooms were clean and comfortable and breakfast was enjoyable. The hotel kept our extra luggage when we went on the road trip, a nice bonus. This hotel is close to the night market and wonderful resturants. We would recommend this hotel is you are visiting Chiang Mai.

Friends recommended the Sakorn Residence and we weren't disappointed - comfortable bed, good bathroom with efficient shower, everything spotlessly clean. We stayed only one night which cost, with breakfast, the equivalent of 35 pounds sterling for the two of us. For anyone staying in Chiang Mai for a while this would be a tremendous value-for-money choice. Our room, with balcony, was spacious with a table, couple of chairs, as well as a writing desk, plenty of storage space, fridge, TV with good choice of channels, DVD and Cd player, wireless internet throughout. There's also a swimming pool and a small fitness room and a coffee shop which is a favourite of people we met who live permanently in Chiang Mai. Sakorn staff were very helpful, organising a taxi to the airport etc. Next door to the Sakorn is Himlay, a lovely restaurant in a garden setting. Delicious food at bargain prices.

Very friendly hotel located a short tuk tuk ride away from the outskirts of Chiang Mai. Rooms are spacious and clean. Very friendly and helpful front desk. Small pool but quiet which suited us perfectly. Breakfast leaves a bit to be desired for the Western taste but well presented and plenty of it. A lot cheaper than other parts of Thailand that we visited. The night market has a Blues cafe that played some of the best Blues Ive ever heard.

Room Tip: Things are cheaper here than in the other parts of Thailand that we visited -Phuket and Bangkok so i...

This was our second stay at Sakorn Residence and for a reason. In the past, we have lived in Chiang Mai for 8 years and have regularly looked for suitable hotels at reasonable prices for friends and visitors. Many hotels look great on the outside, but as you step in a musty smell greets you. Carpets and curtains often reek of cigarette smoke and bathrooms are dark and often not too clean. Not Sakorn Residence! As you enter into the light lobby with very friendly and helpful staff members, you already sigh a breath of relief. We you step into the large, clean, tiled rooms with large windows & lots of light, you know: if you come to Chiang Mai again, this will be the place to return. The rooms are equipped with the normal TV, refrigerator and have internet. In addition there is a water kettle in each room, which for Thailand is not usual. The breakfast is somewhat limited. But where in Thailand, except in a four our five star hotel, do you find anything better? It is served with love and served individually. No cold, greasy fried eggs or sausages as part of a breakfast buffet.

My husband and I stayed one night at the Sakorn in 2011 and liked it so much that we booked 13 nights here for this trip! It is a comfortable place for a short or long-term stay. Our room was large, clean, and comfortable--a real deal for $45.00 per night. It's a plus having a nearly full-sized refrigerator in the room for ice, snacks and drinks. The staff members are very friendly and helpful. We like the location across the river and also being near the peaceful Wat Kate. There are some fun and unique boutique-style shops nearby.

We discovered a variety of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. A new addition to the neighborhood since our last visit is 137 Pillars House where you can enjoy an elegant lunch, dinner, or afternoon tea. There are also some lovely casual restaurants nearby as well.

Breakfast with juice, fresh fruit and a choice of eggs, cereal, fried rice, or pho-type soup (a yogurt option would be a nice addition but that's not a complaint) is served in a covered outdoor setting. The workout room is clean and well-equipped and the pool is a perfect place to relax on a hot afternoon.

We love Chiang Mai and hope to visit again in another year or two--the Sakorn will be our choice of "residence!"

My husband and I arrived in Chiang mai at 4 am the day of our check in having caught a much earlier bus than we had planned to, the official receptionist was unsurprisingly not on duty but the night guy sorted out a room for us and took us up, next morning the staff at the breakfast station made up a tray for me to take up to my still sleeping husband and the receptionist caught me on the way past and she apologised for the inconvenience but we needed to change rooms as the room we had bought for the night on arrival was a higher price than what we had booked - we had expected this anyway but I was impressed when she brought the key to the door of our room and told us our new room was ready and we could move whenever we wanted, later that day we used the pool which was a good size and the gym which had 4 or 5 cardio machines although sadly no weights. The breakfast we had was very tasty, tea or coffee, fresh juice, cake and fresh fruit were all brought out and then there was a choice between full fry up (Thai style), eggs and toast (scrambled or fried), cereal, and the usual breakfast things.
Sakorn residence is situated about 10-15 mins walk from the centre of chaing mai, hotel provides map of chaing mai and will chase travel for day trips etc if running late- also for 3 out of 4 of our excursions we were the last pick up and the first drop off which was nice.
Hotel is near enough to let you fully involve yourself in all chaing mai has to offer but also far enough away that the noise of a busy town won't keep you awake. Big thumbs up!!!
