“Special Hotel !!”
Reviewed October 12, 2010

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in October 2010.
Staff, rooms, pool, everything was fantastic, we really had a wonderful time there.
As there are only 19 rooms, you feel like all the staff treat you with personal service.
One thing we can say though, the breakfast could've been a bit better, and not much choice, also there were many fruit flies flying around the food but the staff didn't seem to do anything about them. However, opulence atmosphere and surroundings more than made up for this small disappointment.

I was there with my wife for 5 nights and we enjoyed our stay very much. The architecture and the decoration are AAA. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is also very good (with the exception of the uninspiring breakfast buffet. However, the cooked breakfast is good). You will love choosing your pillow on the "pillow menu". The hotel lies along a relatively busy road and is not very well insulated so try to get a quiet room.

I stayed here as I had friends stay here, who highly recommended it. The customer care at the Ping Nakara is excellent. I was a solo traveller and they took such care of me. They remembered my name and were always on hand for any request I had.I asked for the ironing board a few times. You have soap, shampoo etc in the bathroom and tea and coffee facilities. I ate at the hotel and the food was lovely. I was surprised the pasta was so good. The rooms are big, clean and comfortable. The shower is amazing and they also have a bathtub, but I didn't have time to use it. It was raining while I was there so didn't make it to the night market, which is close by. I also went to the spa downstairs, which was nice. I just got a mani and pedi. Note that the hotel is by the road. So you may here some street noise but the road is fairly quiet.

I can't recommend Ping Nakara enough! It was gorgeous and the staff were the most friendly and helpful people we encounted in Thailand. Also was in a great location, we were able to walk to most things we wanted to see/do.

At the risk of making this the busiest hotel in Chiang Mai I have to say this hotel is wonderful.
I have been visiting Thailand for the last 20 years on business and this must rank amongst the highest quality residences ever.
From the moment you are collected in the classy 1967 Mercedes saloon with the smell of old leather, to the checking in process in their rotunda salon you know you are in for a treat.
My wife and i opted for a lovers package and this included a 2 hour spa treatment session which was exceptional.
The infinity edge pool (salt exchange not chlorine) was superb, the restaurant was amazing value (rare for hotels) and the night market was within 10 minutes walk.
The only possible gripe could have been the lack of sun beds around the pool (only 6) but there's so much to see in Chiang Mai you may not get time to "sloth out" anyway.

'Return to Elegance' is their slogan and they delivered.

From the very first day we were well looked after. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Everyone is polite, smiling and always happy to see you. Made you realise how rude other hotels can be, sometimes they think they're doing you a favour.

We stayed for 9 nights and the level of cleanliness was of a really high standard. Staff are constantly cleaning around the hotel giving yo the impression that they are taking pride in the stunning building and their jobs.

Great choice of food from Thai to some western style dishes to break things up a little. Reasonable prices considering the surroundings and level of service.

Great location just off the city centre meaing it was tranquil but only a stones throw from the hustle and bustle of the night markets plus temples etc.

Stunning building and decor, really took you back into a by-gone era of colonial indulgence.

Thanks to all the staff who made our stay so memorable.

We stayed at Ping Nakara quite by accident as we'd booked one of the mystery hotels on wotif.com. What an amazing find!!! This little boutique hotel is gorgeous - our room had a painted floral mural on the bedroom wall, four poster bed and was tastefully decorated. It sort of reminded us of staying at Raffles Hotel but in Thai Style. The hotel has a library and reading room where you can relax, order drinks etc and the book selections were quite impressive. It also has a pool which was great. At night, all the lights come on in the trees and it is just stunning.

There were however, a few things we didn't love about the hotel. One was the reliability of the free wifi internet - it kept popping in and out of connection and it was slow. We were disappointed that there was no gym but then again, we're on holiday anyway. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the breakfast buffet - the selection of cold food (cereals, fruit, breads etc) was small but perfectly acceptable. I think for a boutique 5 star hotel they could serve fresh fruit juices rather than out of a bottle. The hot food menu was extensive however both times, our eggs came out far too oily. We also overheard from the next table clients specifically asking the waiter to tell the chef to use no oil. I also tried the boiled rice soup and there was too much msg in it. Sadly, no pancakes or waffles were on order.

On the positive side, we thought that the staff were excellent and very charming. When we checked out of the hotel, we had planned to walk the 100 metres or so to the Chedi with our luggage but they insisted on driving us there in their vintage Mercedes Benz free of charge. It's these little things I think is what makes a hotel really stand out from the pack.

Dear Mister7star,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write this review. We are happy to learn that you are keen on our hotel and experienced a great time during your stay with us. We are grateful for your compliments and comments regarding our services and we will make sure to share this with our entire staff.

As we address your comments, let me first start by apologizing for any inconvenience you experienced while using our complimentary wifi internet. Even though part of the problem came from the service provider, we already worked on our part to boost the wifi to be faster and more reliable. Since our hotel has a pool and due to limited space in building our boutique hotel, we are sorry that we couldn't include the gym. However, we can arrange guests to workout in one of the professional gym close to our hotel. We are glad to inform you that our breakfast will be further improve as we are adding fresh fruit juices, tropical fruits, more variety of breads, and you can always order pancakes or waffles from our a la carte menu without any additional charge. For the eggs, please feel free to request to our staff that you like it without using oil. Regarding the MSG, we are pleased to inform that our chef only use Thai seasoning in our Thai foods. However, thank you for raising this up, we will make certain that our food will has NO MSG as this is our policy since the opening of our restaurant.

Again, we truly appreciate your genuine review and feedback. Rest assures that we will continuously improve and your comments will not go unheard. We look forward to welcoming you back and will make sure that you will enjoy the 'Return to Elegance'.
