Ping Nakara Boutique Hotel & Spa
Ranked #6 of 388 Hotels in Chiang Mai
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 14, 2013

Chiangmai is a lovely city surrounded by many good hotels & restaurants. Among five-star boutique hotels, I will rank this hotel one of the top, not in terms of utmost luxury but the perfect refinement between colonial style ambience & friendly services. One night at Ping Nakara makes me feel deeply relaxed. The room though not very spacious but you find everything you need (refrigerator that comes with complimentary minibar, amenity set, TV & DVD player, hair dryer, weight scale etc. etc.). In the morning, you can enjoy dipping yourself into the pool. (opened since 7 am). Breakfast is served until 10:30 am. They have a limited selection of food at the main bar but they cater special breakfast menu of your choice (Egg dishes, Toast-Pancake & Waffle, Side dishes such as sausage, roasted vegetables, sauteed potato, Asian dishes such as Boiled rice soup, Congee, Northern Thai Set, Wok-fried egg noodles) During afternoon time, you may enjoy reading and sitting chilled at the library (both inside and near the pool) Or, you can spend a great hour in Nakara Spa. Can't tell you more how I fall in love with this place. Paying attention to details,This small boutique hotel deserves a big round of applause. Bravo!

Room Tip: All rooms are unique and decorated in different themes inspired by flowers. However, if you prefer...

I had a wonderful stay at Ping Nakara last month. This small boutique hotel made me feel like I was their only guest. As you can tell from the pictures, the hotel has a colonial style, which is different than anything else in Chiang Mai. The grounds were peaceful and well maintained. My room was large and included a sitting area, large bathroom and balcony. The room came with a complimentary snack bar that was restocked daily. There was also a complimentary DVD library, which I did not have time to use. I was very pleased with the complimentary wifi- very fast and always reliable.

The in-room dining was reasonably priced and food was well prepared. The breakfast was good- hot a la carte items (western and Asian) as well as a small cold buffet. The prepared western items (eggs, waffles, etc..) were very well made. The buffet was smaller than what I have experienced at larger hotels, but I never left hungry.

As far as the location, the hotel is about a five minute walk to restaurants and maybe ten minutes to the markets. There is not much going in the area immediately around the hotel, but I did not mind the short walk. If you plan to spend most of your time in the Old Town, then this may not be the best spot. if doing a lot of day trips from the city, then I don't think the location matters as much. I personally found that the quieter location was a nice contrast to the busy parts of Chiang Mai.

As far as hotel amenities, they do offer a car service for day trips but this is much more than what you would pay if you used public transport. They offer airport transfer either in a van or Mercedes, which is reasonably priced. the hotel also has a spa, which is supposed to be very good, but I didn't use it as there are so many cheaper options nearby.

Overall, I would happily stay here again. They may not have all of the resort activities and features of a large hotel, but the best thing about the hotel is the service and personal attention.

Hotels of this sort aren't easy to come by. My mother and I stayed at the Ping Nakara when visiting Chiang Mai for the first time. We were immediately blown away by the beauty of the colonial-style property, arriving in a vintage Mercedes (courtesy of the hotel driver). Everything was sparkling clean, and the hotel staff were beyond friendly. The mini-bar was complementary, as was the wifi. It was the little details that really made our stay: rooms were sprayed on a regular basis to prevent mosquito attacks, service was top notch no matter what time of day or night, and they even had a "pillow menu" to select from. This hotel is perfect for couples and families with older children.

Family of 3 on 3-day trip to Chiang Mai. Had a fabulous time at this hotel, the staff gave excellent service, and the food was very, very good. Very quiet location, but still central. Would like to come back and stay here again.

We stayed at this gorgeous little hotel for one night, when we arrived in Chiangmai a day earlier than planned. We would have preferred to have stayed on here, rather than move to the resort in which were already booked.

Quite apart from being a lovely, colonial style (but morn) building, with the most wonderful, kind staff, there were a few small touches which really made a difference........ such as "please help yourself to anything in the minibar, there will be no charge" and "wifi is available throughout the hotel, there is no password and no extra charge for its use".

Next time we visit Chiangmai, we'll be choosing Ping Nakara.

Room Tip: Our room overlooking the pool was nice and quiet - no noise from the street.

We found this hotel on Trip Advisor and decided to book the Discovery Chiang Mai Package that included a 3 night stay, tea set for two, complimentary breakfast, and a day trip of your choice.

The staff picked us up at the airport in a vintage looking Mercedes Benz and upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted by very smiley and friendly staff. While they were getting organized and scanning our passports, they served us fresh juice and a refreshment towel. First impression of the hotel was that it was very clean, nicely kept, and just simply beautiful.

Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The mini bar was refilled everyday and drinking water was also supplied each day. We did not buy water during our entire stay in Chiang Mai as the hotel provided this for us free of charge. We really appreciated that. The complimentary breakfast was impressive, with a great a la carte selection and also a buffet with pastries and fruit. The service was exceptional; I felt ill one night with a very bad sore throat. The staff brought hot water, lemon, and honey directly to our room. This was beyond my expectations, thank you! I highly recommend this hotel for couples for a relaxing and stress free stay!

This is hands-down my favorite hotel, ever. The hotel is charming and beautiful, the staff is welcoming and helpful, and the food is fantastic. The location is also very good - you can easily walk to several good restaurants, to the night bazaar, etc., but you are somewhat removed from the hubbub and noise. Tuk-tuks and songtaews were always available just outside the entrance, so it was easy to get places that were further afield. This is one of the pricier hotels in Chiang Mai, but definitely worth the cost.
