My wife, stepson (16) and I visited the Chiang Mai for 4 nights arriving on Boxing Day 2012, and we absolutely loved this hotel, the building is beautiful, the interior design is well thought out giving it a cool relaxing feel. The room we stayed in was fabulous; a great size room overlooking the pool area, and the complementary drinks in the fridge was a nice touch. The pool area is nice and peaceful and great place to relax and unwind after a day visiting the temples and local villages. The food is superb, we had breakfast there each morning and wasn’t disappointed, we also had lunch and dinner in the hotel on a number of occasions and cannot fault the quality one bit. The service the whole time we were there was excellent form the moment we arrived to when we left; this is definitely a hotel that prides itself on making their guest feel welcome and special.

From the moment we were greeted with a fragrant, delicious Lemongrass Tea to being shown our very pretty, very stylish room, my girlfriend and I were walking on air. Beautiful detailing, great touches, pleasant staff. BUT... the creative design of our room -- a sliding glass door shared duties for both the shower and toilet -- was great form but poor function. The toilet area would fill with shower water and remain wet until mopped up with towels. And we were a bit disappointed that the blissful serenity of the room and hotel would be dulled by the noise from the roadway. But despite the bathroom design and the roadway noise, the beauty of the property is so special it still warrants of "very good."

Dear Guest:

We wish to thank you for your comments to TripAdvisor, and glad that you enjoyed your stay at our hotel. But, even more, I appreciate your comments about the water moving from the shower area to the toilet area. This is the kind of issue we rarely can see unless our guest points it out to us. We found that the cause may came from the large volume of water from the big rain shower that we had as there is no water flow problem when we only tested with the handheld shower. We decided to raise the curbing at the glass wall between shower and toilet area, also we are working on increasing the speed of drainage in the shower area that will keep the floor from filling with water. Finally, we will be adding a towel rug at the entrance to the toilet area to help absorb excess water, if any.
Thank you once again and we hope you will have a future occasion to Return to Elegance with us.
Kind regards,
Chairat

Ping Nakara is one of the most inviting stays we have ever had. It is a small boutique hotel with only 19 rooms, which means that you don't feel as though you are a 'number'. We were constantly greater with warm smiles and genuine interest by all staff.
The rooms are gorgeous, all decorated in a different style, each having hand decorated and carved furniture. The staff turned down our bed each night and the little flowers left on the bed were a lovely touch.
The library with its elegant books, the pool area, restaurant, cocktails by the pool or on the front balcony, were all exquisite and made our stay so very enjoyable. I cannot fault our stay and cannot express succinctly enough how pleasurable it was to stay at 'Ping Nakara'. We will be back again, hopefully soon.

a great small hotel near the river - well designed rooms, very friendly and helpful staff, a good restaurant and nice pool all add up to a calm and pleasant experience. it is located within walking distance of the night market and also allows for easy access to the old town (tuk tuks are pretty cheap). the treatments we had in the spa were some of the best we had in thailand over the years. and don't miss the cakes in the nakara jardin just at the back of the hotel, overlooking the river.

The hotel is beautifully done. We continued to admire all the details and how pretty it was. Location is good. Bed is comfortable. I echo all the other good comments.

It is next to a major road. The noise dies down at night but picks up again in the morning. I'm usually sensitive to road noise and by 7 a.m. it starts to get loud. But then again, I suspect most people like us didn't come to Chiang Mai to sleep in. We had activities arranged each morning with the hotel travel agency and left the hotel by 8 to 9 a.m.

This place really is as lovely as it looks! There is so much to commend it... We stayed in a Grande Deluxe room, which suited us perfectly. It was spacious and contained all that you would expect in a 5* boutique hotel, together with a good-sized sofa and a wrought iron king-size bed with an extremely comfortable mattress and good pillows. Our room was not totally soundproofed, but certainly was not noisy. There is free, reliable, in-room WiFi, a complimentary (non-alcoholic) minibar (including biscuits, crisps, chocolates and coconut milk toffees, all of which were re-stocked each day!!), tea & coffee making facilities, responsive air conditioning, and a large balcony. The bathroom is spacious and contains a stand-alone bath, together with separate WC and large shower unit. The hotel has a spa (which we did not use so cannot comment upon) and the decent quality products supplied in the bathroom bear the in-house Spa's name.
Breakfast is good - a cold buffet, with hot Thai dishes freshly-cooked to order. We twice ate dinner in the hotel - on both occasions having excellent Thai food, with exemplary service, at surprisingly-reasonable prices (no 5* hotel rip-off here!) - I would strongly recommend it.
There is a lovely swimming pool on-site, which goes to confirm that the Ping Nakara is an ideal hotel for adults relaxing alone, - but not for their young children: the water is not particularly warm (because the pool is in the shade for much of the day), moreover is of a consistent depth suitable only for adult swimmers (There is no shallow end). There are 6 poolside loungers; towels and complimentary iced water are always available, moreover staff can be summoned to bring bar drinks at any time using the small handbells on each poolside table. We took full advantage of cocktail 'Happy Hour' between 5.30pm and 7.00pm, and also used the library and its two computers, as well as the lovely terrace area where we played cards whilst we took our post-dinner coffee on 3 consecutive nights. As for the staff - we found them plentiful and helpful. What some lack in ther knowledge of English, they more than make up for with their charm and unrelenting eagerness to be of assistance - whether it be organising taxis for day trips, recommending local restaurants, or simply when passing by in the lobby. It's worth bearing in mind that this hotel is not bang in the centre of the main tourist bustle of Chiang Mai - that is a brisk 15 minute walk, or 5 minute tuk-tuk ride, away. For those like us, who see their hotel as a sanctuary away from busy streets, noise and smells, this only adds more to the Ping Nakura's charms. Highly recommended.

We just spent 6 nights. The hotel is small and cosy. The staff wonderful and serviable. It is walking distance from the hustle and bubble of the night market.

If you want to chill out this is the place to be.

We did several excursions organised by Mr Noon who runs the agency in the reception.

Recommened the flight of the gibbon and the elephant farm in Pattara.

Avoid temple in the cave nothing special.
Avoid the oldest restaurant in Chang mai .

The Ginger Kafe and Deck were nice restaurants and if you spoil your selve go to the restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental where they also have a show which is not loud and sit
on the large patio to have dinner. It is called the Le Grand Lanna.
