“Just Delightful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2012

Everything about this place is wonderful. The boutique hotel with just 19 rooms is a colonial design with period piece furniture throughout. The architecture and decor is delightful. There is a lovely pool in the centre of the property with a veranda to sit and relax. The room I was in was large and had a balcony. There is free WiFi throughout the property.
Breakfast is included and is delicious.
All the staff are helpful and friendly. Mr Noom who can organise tours and transport is particularly helpful.
It is a classy place and i hope to have the opportunity to stay here again sometime soon.

Great stay at Ping Nakara. The building is as charming as the photos suggest.

Loved getting picked up at the airport by a uniformed driver in a vintage Mercedes.

Excellent service at the front desk with all the basic stuff (help getting songthaews, tuktuks, directions, etc.) and providing DVDs, special pillows, etc.

Pretty good breakfast in a nice setting.

The Ping Nakara is stunning, with beautiful external areas and rooms. The restaurant is very nice, the bar does tasty smoothies and cocktails, the staff are extremely helpful. We found it pretty much perfect in every way!

There is some traffic noise from the busy street - but to be honest the room was still quieter than most we stayed in in Thailand given that the modern air con was so quiet!

This was a perfect hotel to finish our trip in Thailand. It’s a fabulous colonial style boutique hotel that has all you need in this great city. The staff were always willing to help, the rooms were very comfortable and they had everything you need even a great pillow menu. The room had plenty of space, very clean, great bathroom and a nice balcony (we stayed in the Grand Deluxe room). Free internet and use of the computers are available in the library. The breakfast was substantial without going over the top, comfortable seating and not crowded. A beautiful pool and great sitting area nearby with elegant furniture to relax and have afternoon tea or an evening drink. The location is great, 10 minute walk to the markets and about 15 to 20 minute walk to most restaurants (including the riverside). I cannot recommend this place enough, I've stayed in over more than a dozen hotels in Thailand and this is one of the best, we will be back.

Room Tip: For those sensitive to traffic noise when sleeping, take some earplugs.

Stayed here with my girlfriend in december and from the moment we arrived I didn't really feel that my money was spent well. The room was fine but the noise from outside during the nights was terrible. I suppose people from outside could probably hear what we were saying as well, as the door to our room was very thin. On their website it clearly displays that this room includes a Jacuzzi but instead it was a oversized bathtub with no additional functions that a Jacuzzi would have.

While this property is a bit on the side of the central Chiang Mai it was very difficult to find it, as they did not have any signs or a map how to drive to get there. So if you are renting a motorbike while staying there I suggest you have a good memory.

Someone also entered our room very early in the morning without knocking and we informed the front desk about this, they didn't know who it could have been and they simply said that they would investigate it. I guess they didn't do that since we heard nothing about it when we checked out.

Whats good about this hotel is that it's close to the night bazaar, it's also a property where you can stay if you want some privacy and want to get away from the center for a bit.

I did however not find it worth my money and I would not return.

Dear Guest,

The Ping Nakara was built in the colonial style of a grouping of houses, so it is true that the hotel looks like a large house—or, in fact a very large house. With the total floor space of over 37,500 square foot there is plenty of space for 19 large rooms, 4 spa rooms, restaurant, library, bar and swimming pool. Because of our commitment to preservation of the Lanna colonial style, the Ping Nakara received many awards for design and architectural excellence.

Regarding the location, we are on one of the main streets in Chiang Mai near the night market area. It shouldn’t be hard to find us as our coordinates are in Google Map and we also provide a free city map at the front desk.

On the day that the guest said someone had entered the room, the housekeeping manager did enter the room at 10:20 am, after knocking at the door several times, as she thought the room was empty. After she noticed that a guest was in the room, she immediately left and informed the front desk what had happened. One of our guests who is a Thai had been informed about this as our GSA did explain to her in Thai when she visited the front desk. On another note, there are security chain locks in all rooms, and this incident would not have happened if the chain was on or the door was double locked.

It is true that our web site shows a room with Jacuzzi as an example of some rooms. I am sorry the guest did not see the information where we clearly state that not all Royal Grand Deluxe Rooms have Jacuzzi.

Since our rooms have a buffer area in front of the room, we thought that it would protect from noise coming into the room. Still, we appreciate this comment, and we will explore ways to develop additional sound control for all doorways.

We always take every comment seriously, and we will keep on improving to be able to give the best experience stay to our guests.

Kind regards,
Chairat

My wife and I have just returned from our first visit to Chiang Mai. We stayed at the Ping Nakara boutique hotel. The hotel houses about a dozen spacious and very comfortable rooms. Our balcony overlooked the pool on the first floor which most rooms do offering peace and tranquility unlike the front of the hotel which, is on a very busy and noisy road. the rooms have no noise protection from the road so, light sleepers might struggle.
The staff were wonderful, addressing us by name and always saying hello......in Thai! The hotel looked after me very well when I had to visit the hospital. They provided a Mercedes car and driver for me at no cost on all occasions.
The breakfast buffet was a little uninspiring but, they did offer an extensive cooked menu which, was limitless for the hungry ones. There were English, American and Thai options.
The costs of any meals from the restaurant were very reasonable at about £3 a course and were very tasty and spicy if you like it that way.
The pool was largely unused although, very beautiful. It gets a little sun from about 10am till 2pm and the shade is often welcome.
The hotel is situated a short walk from the vast amount of markets, bars and restaurants where, you can shop and eat for very little and guarantee quality.
I would not hesitate to return to this hotel and to Chiang Mai which, is now my favourite city that, I have travelled to.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. We stayed in a Grand Deluxe room which, is huge.

LOVED spending 4 days at PIng Nakara with my husband! The hotel is so different than most "modern" places you see often in Thailand. It was colonial but still had beautiful Thai design touches. The staff was very professional and took amazing care of us. The room was BIG, gorgeous, and very romantic. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I've had in a hotel and they have a great pillow menu to suit your preferences. I didnt get to use the pool, but wish I could have. Chiang Mai is such an incredible city and this hotel puts you in very close walking distance to anything you'd want to do or see.
The breakfast was tasty... although it is kind of annoying how many mosquitos are out in the morning breakfast area. The staff does everything they can to make it better, but I still felt like I was constantly in attack mode to smack them if they landed.
Also, dont order wine. Its too expensive for the imported stuff they offer. Stick with drinks and try to get the guy to make them strong. They have a very light pour in Thailand!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the top floor... A tiny bit noisy on street side but not a big deal.
