Overall this is a great place to stay, they may not have quite got it 100% right yet but I am sure they will do so soon and I will come back here. I stayed for 8 nights and whilst some discreet renovations are still going on that most people would not even notice, the hotel is in great shape and is fantastic value for money. Don't be put off by it advertising itself as a Gay Hotel, more than half the guests here are straight families or business people and apart from a few camp guys around the hotel, there is nothing that I would describe as gay - its just a people friendly hotel. Lots of happy smiling staff, rooms are big and clean though some still need a lick of paint., but dont let this comment put you off, its a minor improvement only thats needed. Reception area is large, excellently decorated, spacious and relaxing. Breakfast (thai style) is really very good. Although american breakfast is advertised as available on roof terrace it was closed on the two occassions I tried to go there in mornings. Night time roof/sky bar is superbly done, pity they don't do Thai food and have a very dull pizza pasta type of menu - it may be ok food but I did not try it as came here to eat Thai not American food. Bar is very reasonably priced and staff are very friendly and helpful. Few staff speak the level of English I was expecting from the blurb on thier website, and I would not recommend the laundry service yet which still has teething troubles - they lost several items and trying to solve it with them was so frustrating as they just cant understand English well enough so I gave up in the end. Interent is very poor, only works in reception, not the rooms or pool area and it is very definately not high speed. Swiming pool is nice if smallish - the massage boys hanging around and drinking lots can be distracting, though at other times they were more reserved and clearly some guests dont mind how many of them are hanging about. No direct sun at pool but small sun terrace on level above with plenty of sun loungers. As for the Powerboys show in basement club - its not quite there yet, maybe with some more practice it will work better, If you are into this sort of thing there are several places in Chiang Mai that do a much better show though the others can be a little more hardcore than Powerboys which tends to be slightly more discreet. But give it a try, all guests I chatted with were more than pleased with what they found here.
