The villa is big enough for 6 of us. And the staffs were very prompt with their service. On our first night there, all kids were vomiting. Our room was a mess. I told them and they cleaned it up in a jiffy the next morning. With a smile. And they are very generous with their extras too. It might not be a five star hotel. But they treat you like family. My kids really had fun mingling with the staffs.

You can also opt to stay in Children Shelter Foundation. We stayed there for 3 nights and it was awesomeness. The guest house is in an organic farm about 30 minutes from Chiang Mai.So it's your chance to have a holiday and make a difference. Every single dollars that you pay to the guest house will benefit the kids from the Children Shelter Foundation. We really love the atmosphere. Would definitely stay here again the next time we are in Chiang Mai.

We stayed in Joy's House for one night only even though we booked 4 nights and a trekking package. We had a very bad start as the two teens who worked for Joy's House were 45 minutes late for the airport pick up. We had to call the b and b up twice but still no one showed up to pick us up. The two teens at last appeared and blamed us for being too early and not giving them full names.

We saw the teen labor playing in the reception room without any adult supervision when we finally arrived Joy's House. Joy's daughter gave us the key but did not show us the room. We requested to talk to the owners but were told the owners left and were in Germany. The only adult that we talked to was the sister of Joy and she did not know how to handle our grievance.

We are skeptical about their services to the children and teenagers who are under their care. Have they given them enough nurture? How come they can be so impolite and irresponsible? Is it just a business concept to attract customers who are compassionate? The boy who picked us up at the airport is also the guide of our three-day trekking during the week. We wonder how that is possible because he is still attending day school. Does it mean that he has to skip school?

We were very annoyed when we were requested by the manager to lecture the child labor and teen labor on how to be good hosts. We are travelers to enjoy our holidays but not teachers.

Joy's House charged us 12000 bahts per person for the 3-day trekking. We cancelled it after we moved out and enrolled another similar trekking package at 5000 bahts. And the breakfast we had was the worst we ever had.

Dear guest,
thank you for your review.
We are very sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us and we have to appologize that we picked you up late from the airport.
Usually our students are very well behaved - and would never blame a guest - so I guess it was a misunderstanding by language. Anyway we are very sorry that you felt uncomfortable already at the airport.

About our Tours:
Our Tours are private Tours and no group Tours.
You will enjoy your own guide, your own car and your individual Tour.
All bigger Tours are guided by an employed adult guide with guide lizense and a student in training. If our student in training told you:" I'm your guide" - he was just proud for his knowledge and ability, but of course we always send a guide and beside a student in training with.

About the concept for the students in training:
We have a Manager and 8 adult Employees in Joys House.
Furthermore 16 elder students (16 - 24 years) from our Children's Aid Project have the chance to train Tourism in Joy's House and go to School, College or University.
It depend on their abilities, if they attend Weekend University, Evening University or College from Monday until Friday. Therefore you will see our youngsters in different times at Joy's House.

In Joy's House the youngsters get training in every section of hotel management and more over they get teached in Computer, Languages, Sign Language, traditional instruments, traditional dances and behavior.
We started Joy's House to provide training and education to our elder students instead sending them out alrady with 16 years to stand by their own. Be sure we care for them.

Joy's house is so different from anywhere else that we have stayed that even a 5-star rating doesn't do it jutice. We stayed with our 3 kids for 5 nights and had a great time. It is not a big hotel, but has evrything you need. It is in the coutryside in a lovely compound. The restaurant menu is not large but has everything you want, the room was spacios and comfortable, and we had some lovely evenings in the garden with other travellers.

The best thing is the staff. Always helpfula nd smiling. Many of them have come from the children's foudnaiton, which is expecially nice (we visted there too - a very good day trip).

The distance from Chaing Mai is a blessing, it is in a rural area with quiet lanes. Great for riding or running. The taxi ride to town is quick, but you don't need to go into the middle of Chaing Mai that much, as most places to visit are out of town.

Stay here if you want a different kind of stay!

Room Tip: The large suite was very comfortable

Staying at Joy's house is definitely a different and very enjoyable experience. We stayed there with 2 children and it was just the perfect setting with lots of space, bikes to move around and adorable staff. The rooms and the pool are very nice, clean but this is not what made us give 5 stars. What makes this place so special is its atmosphere. Joy's house serves has an additional help to young adults who have grown up at the farm (their children shelter 1 hour away in the mountain) and give them opportunities to work in tourism and be around foreign guests. Most of these young adults work at the guest house and also continue their studies. They really give positive vibes to this place. Everyone is so friendly so joyful that is contagious to other guests and you quickly feel like you are spending holidays with good friends. We really enjoyed the evenings. The whole place is lighted with candles and the young play high quality live music (voice and guitars). Some nights many guests were singing along.

I read some negative comments about the fact that their tours are over-priced. We experienced both: we booked some tours in downtown agencies and did a few organized directly by Joy's house. It is NOT comparable! Downtown tours offer the regular tourist attractions (I'm not saying there are not nice, we enjoyed some of them as well). You pay less because you are in groups but you have to follow a strict program, see things that thousands of tourists have seen before + pick-up and drop out guests at every hotels. With Joy house tours we experienced something unique, private and out of the beaten tracks. We made some very authentic encounters. We particularly loved going to the farm, enjoying the company of the children (and adults) and spending the night there. In the evening we went to the hot springs with a few children - what a great experience! The next day the kids had a party at school and we accompanied them, again something very unique. We also enjoyed the cooking course. We had two nice young girls who took us (by bike) to the local market, helped us buying the food we would need, then cooked and eat it with us. You don't get these experience elsewhere and they are very correctly priced for what we they brought to us.

We stayed at Joy's House for 6 nights. The staff is what makes the difference...you are like one of the family there form the moment you arrive.

We were met at the airport, and taken back there after our stay. Welcoming dinner was on the house, so it was most appreciated.

Food was not grand, but was like home cooked...which was welcomed by us after having had restaurant food for two weeks prior! Local tours were taken cared by the staff!

And we even participated in the nightly amateur band hour! Like I said, we were like family! Different concept, has its place...so don't expect a five star hotel! After all, this is a BnB!

The only drawback is there's nothing much else around Joy's House, and you have to take a tuk tuk or taxi to places...roaming around was unattractive!

Still, we enjoyed ourselves!

We stayed at Joys house for a week with our 4 year old son. It is a very relaxed place with lots of safe space for families and kids, also childrens bikes. Everyone feels like a family and there is a loving atmosphere. It is a bit out of the way so you will need to use tuk tuks or cycle. The pool is nice but quite chilly. Our room was spacious and comfortable. You will need mossie repellant here as there were many mosquitos and no nets. We took private yoga classes with Vadi who was a really excellent and intuitive teacher who managed the different needs we has as a couple- one novice one beginner. The day trip out to the farm was great and lovely to see these children growing in such apositive atmosphere. We also loved our cooking lesson with Por and Ruta, two of the older students. My only no no was the elephant trip we chose which was recommended- to Massaman elephant park- see my review and others on trip advisor- it was not a good experience for me. Otherwise we loved our time at Joy's.

Stayed in Joy's Guest House in Jan. Very nice people, clean accommodation, helpful staff. They make you feel like home. Love the nice live music played at night, and the breakfast, as most of the day I was away on trips.

The Thai message there is a must-do. Great experience.
