I spend 4 night at Hotel M, the location is perfect, the staff very helpful at all times you are just in front of tapae gate and a few mininutes walf from night bazar. Visit all the temples was almost impossible as there is a temple in every corner.

Going to start with a few cons - I had ordered room service and paid for it the next day, but they double charged me for that on my way out of the hotel. I was highly annoyed at this, but theres not much you can do. The men at the desk are VERY unhelpful (the women are really nice and helpful, despite not knowing a lot of English).
They also didn't return our deposit, which was partially our fault seeing as we didn't realise until we had left the hotel. The deposit is a refundable 1,000 Baht. We are attempting to contact the hotel to have this transferred back to us, but we aren't expecting much of an outcome.

But the pro's of staying at this hotel - sits on top of a 24h Burger King (the BK is like the downstairs restaurant, with a private entrance from the hotel lobby!), it's right beside the Gate, which is easy for cabs or tuk tuks to find.

The location is so good though. Walking distance from indian restaurants like New Dehli etc. And if you like clubbing and drinking ask for directions to go to Zoe in Yellow. It's a club which is right beside an area which is lively and full of locals and tourists playing pool and getting drunk. It shuts at 2 am but I'm sure you'll be able to find other places to go (nearby).

The service from the hotel is otherwise OK. Quite on the pricey side if you're trying to Budget but we had checked a couple of little hotels, and found that this one was a very good value of service of the money provided.

Apart from the hiccup when checking out, I would have given this a solid 4.5 - 5 stars. Recommend staying here - but just beware.

Room Tip: stayed in 2 different rooms on floor 2 and 3. They were both really good. Just ask them what rooms a...

What a lovely place! Right across from one of the gates of the Old City, where they have the Nigh Market on Sunday. Great staff - super helpful. Lovely clean room with huge beds and a wonderful bathroom. Close to lots of sites and eateries.

Location
Chose Hotel M Chiang Mai after IMM Hotel was fully booked. Hotel M Chiang Mai was located just within the old city walls near the Ta Phae Gate. There are many eateres (Burger King, Black Canyon Coffee, McDonalds and local food), convenience stores (7-11), pharmacies and tour operators within its vicinity. The hotel is also located just beside the start of the Sunday Night Market stretch of road. Hailing a taxi or songtheaw is not a problem.

Reception
Reception was friendly. Check-in and check-out was done efficiently with minimal fuss. Staff can converse fluently in English. Just like any hotel, bag storage is available after check out.

Room
Hotel room looks recently refurbished with new fittings and furniture. Bed was huge with clean sheets. Pillows were soft but the bed was harder than the ones back home. The customary amenities of a Thai hotel (towel, complimentary water, soap, shampoo) were provided. However, some unfavourable points to note:

(1) Hotel room was dark as lights were only installed at the entrance, above the dressing table, 2 bedside tables and the headboard. No lights installed at the centre of the ceiling to illuminate the entire room, which was spacious. For the bathroom, a light was only installed above the wash basin while none in the shower stall. Had to shower in the dark. Something to note on the installed lights: It is not white lights, which provides better lighting.

(2) The smell of sewage can be detected in the bathroom most of the time. It was bearable but unpleasant for me as I have a less sensitive nose. It could be worse if a person with a normal sense of smell.

Sleep quality
My most off-putting issue about this hotel. I was given a room facing the moat, hence the main road. The room was not properly sound proofed as the sound of roaring motors can be heard in the room. This does not stop at midnight but can be heard at random times throughout the night. Was severely sleep deprived and tired throughout my entire 3 nights stay at the hotel.

Value
The hotel was within my budget. All in all, I paid about RM142 per night (incl taxes). Do note that the rate excludes a daily breakfast.

Room Tip: Choose a room higher up or a room that does not face the Ta Phae gate

We stayed at the Hotel M for 5 nights in July. We had a room on the 5th floor. To be honest the room was the smallest we stayed in of the 5 hotels we went to while in Thailand. The room was clean and the bed comfy. But you felt very claustrophobic - especially in the bathroom which was so small. We were not able to quite understand how breakfast worked so did not bother - told to go in to have a buffet but there was nothing there. On the plus side it is so centrally located - especially to the market - although I think it could get very noisy. There is a Coffee Club and Burger King right underneath - but we did more eating at the Black Canyon just across the road which was fantastic. There is no pool and the restaurant was not available to us at the time. It was ok but certainly the four other hotels we stayed in were better. In fact we had left the Amora just across the road - it was cheaper and such big rooms - but the beds so hard we could not sleep - but wished we had stayed there in the end.
